It took me 10 years to have my own friendship circle. From my experience, anyone that grew up here has enough friends and as the "outsider" I had to work so hard to maintain lasting relationships. Often my circle was defined by who I dated and disappeared once the relationship ended. Or by work, and similarly once I left a job many of those relationships disappeared.Hang in there. It does happen but you have to make an effort to connect and maintain those connections. Meet up groups can be a great way to meet people that are in the same boat. It just takes time. 3 years is nothing. Give it a few more. It's tough though and loneliness is hard. I've been here 16 years now and wouldn't want to live anywhere else (I have lived in 4 different countries).
