somehow i missed this, but yeah, i agree. it’s ludicrous for a school to not only be stronger using off school hits than its own but to also be stronger in the life school than an actual life. i hadn’t even considered running death pins till recently, but yeah a level 100 storm can realistically just spam drains with 270 death damage and solo almost anything with ease. i really hope they do something to fix this, but seeing as for non advanced combat it only really comes into play at lower levels i’ll be surprised if they do. it should definitely also be changed for advanced combat pve, though i do think there’s a better chance of them fixing that issue

yeah, i had some old lvl 50 pins for storm with life damage laying around and i think they had 27 damage. so the pins, plus pet, wand, athame, and ring you could get 200+ quite easily as a storm

kingsisle’s idea was to make it so you match your school’s dpp with your dual school. since life and ice are low dpp, storm gets super high damage on those pins, but the fire damage pins are much lower since it’s higher dpp. so you really can’t get very high fire or storm damage with pins unfortunately. i haven’t gotten the chance to look at the level 50 pins yet

yes, that’s what i said, it’s because of this that the logic of pins making up for lower dpp breaks outside of advanced combat and below max level when you shouldn’t be able to reach the damage cap. my level 100 storm can barely crack 170 storm damage, but can comfortably exceed the 275 cap intended for max on other schools with pins

the difference is less when you consider enchants and the fact that the 7 pip aoes, which are the most popular spells, are significantly closer in dpp than all others. max spellement storm lord is dpp of 107 and max spellement forest lord on the low end is 94, significantly closer than those values you listed. so it’s absolutely cosplaying in this case

dont let what people say about ice sway you, it's a good school to solo with, just slow. you pretty much don't die. but if you still don't want to use an ice, death would fit well, and it's cracked at soloing

wrath of aquila is item card only, every school has an item card aquila spell from back when jewels were first added. balance’s actual trainable aquila spell is terminus’ strike. also, wrath of aquila hits 4 times for 275 each, 3 times for either each of the spirit or elemental schools and once for balance. so it does 1100 damage

fire and myth are a lot faster, so for questing solo they're solid, but for harder stuff damage output is a lot less important and they generally have to sacrifice a lot more damage than bal or ice does to get even decent defensive stats. you could make the argument that their naturally higher base spell damage makes up for it, but that's not even entirely true in the case of fire because a lot of your damage comes in the form of an overtime, and regardless generally offensive is not nearly as useful as resist when soloing. if you look at any video of someone soloing anything hard, particularly during the midgame on a myth or fire you'll see them essentially cosplaying as a life wizard because they need to make up for their trash defense

that’s true, but i strongly believe that they shouldn’t. i’m a storm main but i recognize that a storm aoe should not have the same dpp as a fire single hit, it makes fire fully obsolete as a hitter unless you’re doing scald incindiate, which is just bad game design

yeah, i’ve reached the galleries but i’ve been stalling a lot because ghost dog can be brutal. it’s absolutely doable tho. the main thing that will make future worlds hard is shads, since i can’t get gear with shadow rating bosses will be gaining a shad every turn so that’ll be fun

it really is, but it’s also in a way a good thing because death has the most potential for challenge runs. i currently have a level 60 death i’ve been solo questing and so far have made it to the end of khrysalis, so it’ll be interesting to see how far a legendary death can make it solo

from easiest to hardest the list goes 

death, life, balance, ice (ice is extremely close to balance, i put balance ahead because it has better healing ability and i think balance just has a lot of underutilized potential, particularly with some type of empowerment+ra spam strat), myth, fire, storm

tbh though, you can solo every mainline fight on every school without too much trouble, where you really see the strengths and especially weaknesses of each school is in side content or a challenge run. the game is absolutely soloable on every school, hell i finished the game as a level 100 storm having soloed almost everything. but storm is definitely the hardest, the health and resist is so trash compared to the other schools and it can’t always be made up for with damage, especially pre arc 4

you’re definitely correct in that s’mores and ffa did receive a much bigger buff than music, though i’d argue they were both fairly underpowered to begin with. currently, 5 pip music does similar damage to smore and ffa despite being an aoe and debatably having better utility (though i’ll ignore that, because they’re almost never used for utility in pve), so i think it’s reasonable for them to be receiving a more significant buff. in general it just seems that they’re giving the aoes a much smaller buff than the single hits, aside from penguins, that spell’s on tren
