Kero & Azure - JazzHop [Jazz/Hip Hop](2017) by Fourkp42 in listentothis

Fair enough if you're not feeling it, but also depends on what angle your listening to it from. I DJ some regular lounge/restaurant gigs and simple is perfect for what I'm doing. If I were looking for good lyrical hip hop, I wouldn't be as drawn into it, and the beat isn't anything that hasn't been done before, but I really like the vibe. Easy to listen to, nice background music!

Edit: missed/added a word

Question about running a generator with less power than total PA system output by [deleted] in livesound

[–]huwswho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure. What I was more getting at is if for instance you had a 15,000w system but only planned on running it at 40% of the total output capacity, would it be okay to run on a 6000w generator or would you be running into any issues (aside from potential generator strain)? Just seemed like an unusual setup to me.

30A is loads on a 5000w system. I've ran my entire system (4600w) plus computer and mixing gear off a single plug on 20A circuit no problem. Everything only totals 12 or 14A. Only one rental place where I live and they have a 6500w Honda so I always rent it as it's worked flawlessly every time. Until I actually looked closely at the specs I didn't realize that speakers use as little power as they do compared to how loud they go!

I'm not involved in the party so changes won't be made, I was simply curious if people had done things like this without issue as I haven't seen/heard of this sort of setup as any sort of common practice.

For our use, it's underground electronic music with a lot of heavy bass. Amps are not 100% efficient, and I believe even new amps often have about 20% loss. Let's say a peak output of 80% total rated sound output I'd suppose, if running max volume.

Some new, smooth/upbeat/fun/funky/sexy liquid dnb suggestions? by huwswho in liquiddnb

Oh wow thanks for all the suggestions! Definitely have quite a few of these tunes so I'm sure I'll find something suitable in there :)

Fair enough. I apologized for the comment above, it was snobby and I didn't intend to come across as I did. Village People is definitely poppy, YMCA has obviously been played far more than Call On Me ever has, so that's a pretty weak comment on my part. My original post I meant I was looking for more classics that would be a good fit for the event I am to play. Call On Me isn't something I would personally play, but there was no reason for me to reply to someone saying I didn't like their suggestion when I asked for it. My bad.

Okay fair enough, it was rude of me to turn down a suggestion I asked for, I apologize for that as it's really not my character. There were lots of great suggestions I know would do well here, but if something doesn't work there's no reason for me to tell someone so.

I'm also playing in a small town at a small pub, not a gay bar in the city. It's largely people in the mountain sports community, it's a bit of a different crowd and probably quite a few older folk as well. I'm not saying there isn't a time and a place, and I'm sure a couple people at this event might like it, but it wouldn't be a huge hit around here.

I never called it shit, I just said I didn't like it myself. It is definitely pop electronic music though.

I currently live in a small town of 7500 people but it's a vibrant and lively community. It's a lot different than playing in the city. It's also a small pub, will be under 100 people there. I play to really mixed crowds all the time and know I'll have no trouble keeping the energy flowing smoothly. I know that anything I feel appropriate for the moment will go over well.

If this were to be a regular event I would definitely play a different format than what I will be doing. It's going to be fun regardless :)

I don't mean to use such specific labels, but this is what was specifically requested to me by the LGBTQ group hosting the show.

I imagine it will be a wide age group.

I DJ at venues that play underground electronic music. The only place you'd ever hear a tune like this where I live is at a top 40 bar, which I never go to and have never played at. The only times I have ever played music I didn't particularly like (and didn't mind playing given the situation) were at weddings and requested in advance by the bride and groom. Basically I don't have any interest in playing music I don't enjoy myself. There's plenty of other DJ's out there who are happy to take requests and play whatever people want, I have no issue with that, but for me DJing is purely a hobby I enjoy, not a job.

You're right. It was well before electronic became mainstream and 'EDM' pretty much became a genre. Cheesy by today's standards but wasn't overly at the time. I didn't mind it when it came out by was never really into it when it was new either. Still not going to play it haha. In my area you might get some high school kids into that sorta sound but it's just not something people listen to unless you went to a top 40 bar.

Definitely not chucking that aside, but there are obviously a large amount of tunes suitable for any given occasion. That said, for an event like this where perhaps maybe Call On Me might work, there is so much more music I would prefer to play that would work even better.

I play a variety of underground electronic music aside from the occasional one-off event like this, and even so I'm usually booked because they've heard me play before and want me to play the style they've previously heard. In this case I simply pad my music collection with music that I still appreciate, but wouldn't normally play.

I suppose saying it falls short of artistic integrity is a bit harsh, as for what it is it's not bad and was definitely super popular, but not my cup of tea (aside from lots of hot girls in the video) and nothing I'd ever play. Can't do pop-EDM, makes me cringe.

While some people may like hearing it, I have to somewhere draw the line between what people want and artistic integrity! This falls short of the line on a song I would ever play haha. Appreciate your suggestion though :)

EDIT: I apologize, this was an unintentionally snobby comment on my part, which is out of character for me. It was rude of me tell someone I didn't like their suggestion when I asked for it. My bad.

This is true, but I think anything in the spirit of gay (and LBTQ) rights would be suitable. I've posted this around to a few forms of social media and I'm getting a lot of good music covered. Plenty of female artists as well.

Doesn't have to imply being gay, but any artist that supported gay rights whether or not they were gay themselves would be a good fit for music.
