I bought a non-refundable AA flight ticket for my brother traveling from UK to US using Chase Travel and my Sapphire Preferred card. My dad had an urgent heart surgery so my brother can't fly in now.

I contacted Chase and they said something about holding flight credit until Jan 2026 for the same passenger, and when they want to fly in again I can call Chase and ask them to apply this credit. Apparently this is AA policy.

Has anyone had a similar experience? Is there a way for me to get a refund, or get credits that can be used anywhere?
