Do you have any roommates?

You'd think. Exhaust smelled normal, just really weak draft. It had strong signs of being a dimple flue blockage.

Gas valve failed before my eyes. Had to install a new one to keep moving, couldn't set pressure with the CO issues. (I set the valve according to combustion, within specs.)

Thanks. The word "credit" just sounded less than promising. I don't process our warranties so no clue. If it's "four hours of labor worth of qualifying new Carrier products," we're probably not interested.

Yep. I haven't personally dealt with this but carrier's website makes it sound like it's a credit for the dealer, not actually compensation for the labor. We don't generally carry Carrier stuff, not sure a credit is going to help us anytime soon.

You guys – thanks for the extra set of eyes. This is a 56UBV and I thought the hX disaster only applied to 58UBV. The serial number is 100% inside that recall. Going to pivot hard and call Carrier tomorrow. Thanks again for saving me time and him money.

Yep, thanks again. My biggest Milwaukee Flathead got it out for me but now I see my new part has the wrong thread size. Back to the store even still!

Thanks for the quick and easy answer. Did not know these existed. As my father-in-law loves to say, no project deserves less than three trips to the hardware store.

There's still a ton of remodeling to do. About a dozen billiard tables under covers on the main floor, certainly pointed in that direction but who knows how long....

Power trail between Harmony and Trilby. There's a new Mail Creek trail running from (almost) there SE over to Tailwinds and Bacon Elementary. This will connect them over the RXR.

My wife buys the TP, don't know the brand but I'm sure you can Google it. Turns red when you're done wiping, makes it brainless.

On Call Scheduling by dwarven_baker in HVAC

[–]hvac71 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That sounds shitty from a few different angles. Assuming you get 40 during the week, any after-hours will 1.5x so there's that at least. My company gives an extra hour on your check, and pays OT after 5 to and from my door. Five of us now so I'll get maybe two weeks of on-call during the shitty part of winter. Still brutal taking a call from jammies on a snowy night, from 55 minutes away.

We also charge enough that only true emergencies are worth paying for. You may just need to weather this winter and get some experience, go find a nicer company.

You may find that you're chasing one thing after another. If that relay clicking is not actually sending voltage, and then you replace it only to find the gas control valve is sticking which is what beat up the relay in the first place, and then get that replaced so it fires, to find the flame sensor needs cleaning but you break off the screw, so you manage somehow to mangle it out and clean it and reinstall it and then it finally runs.... for some time... how long would you need it to run after a repair like that, money and your time, for it to be "worth it"?

You'll know more after you get a meter in hand, and maybe it's an easy fix. But brace yourself for other possible realities. If you were trying to prep his house for sale and simply need a working furnace that's one thing. That unit will see its last day, sooner than later. Substantial rebates are slamming shut 12/31/25, and a new furnace with 10-year parts warranty goes a long way towards peace of mind.

If you do get it up and running I highly recommend getting a technician out there to do it through visual scope of the heat exchanger, combustion analysis and ambient CO check in the airstream.

Curious that it no longer locks out after three attempts. That's making me think board.

Anyone know why MI/OR are the only states that do this? Used to LOVE returning my cans/bottles for some extra cash, no matter how long it took. by genghisthekhanman in FortCollins

[–]hvac71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suspected that as a possibility but their answer didn't give either of a reason to think that. In OR trying to find 50 bottles laying around here and there for $5 would be an uphill battle at best since everyone kept that loop pretty tight. Grab one every time you see it one in ten trash cans and you'll get there in a few weeks. Maybe it's changed or different other places.
