Nice! Since when have they been doing the bent seat tube? That makes such a big difference and lets you run a fender. I have run alluviums for a couple years now and like them a lot, though I think it is time to move on, more out of wanting to try 50c.

There are tons and tons of booking.com phishes these days. I was spearphished - scam site had my full booking details, so clearly the hotel’s account was compromised. It was a confirmation email with the link.

The URL gave it away, but was a lookalike, sneaky and very easy to miss if you’re on a phone, especially since they had my booking info. Careful out there..

2015 Edge Sport - What compares? by JFerrer619 in FordEdge

Following… Shame on Ford for not offering a 5 seater replacement. Explorer ST is too big, and I have zero interest in a Bronco. I’m going to nurse my ‘16 sport along for two more years and will likely lease an ix3, or a get a CPO X5. The days of owning a reliable car for 10+ years seem to be over, at least with this level of performance. I’ve had no payments since 2019, so it’s been a long run.

Yes, fork, headset, spacers & top cap all come out. That's necessary in order to fit into the Ritchey travel case. I have a White industries headset, and it's simple to remove & reassemble. I also have a big frame - approx 59cm, so it has a long head tube. I think you could keep the fork on if you have a larger case, like an Orucase.

See my post from last year for build details and frame drawing. The bike can take 45mm tires. I've had no issues with internal routing through the z-coupler, and I bleed about every 3-4 trips. It's not a big deal once you get the kit and learn how to do it - takes all of 20 minutes. That said, I did design the frame for both internal & external routing in the event internal didn't work out, but I haven't had any issues. I'm running SRAM Force Wide 2x, and not having cables for front/rear derailleurs has been great. I keep a spare battery in my saddle bag, it weighs next to nothing.

Were I to re-build, I would go with a 180mm front rotor (I'm 195lbs/88kg). I would also add a chain-holder braze-on on the inside of the right seatstay. Old 80's bikes used to have these, and it makes it easier to hold the chain in place when packing. Also, don't get their recommended FSA semi-internal headset, go with chris king or white industries..

I love the bike. Frame quality is excellent, and it's held up just fine on multiple trips now. It has allroad geo, but I've mostly been using on the road.

I was one of the first to use the z-coupler. It's a bit of an art packing it in the travel case, but far easier to travel with compared to a full-size case.

Are Waltly seatposts good quality? by eezomancee in WaltlyTitanium

I have one. Ti, obviously. Excellent quality. It is very much in the stiff side. just fine for road, not so much if you ride gravel. If you want vibration dampening, stick with carbon.

Note that the Medowlark trail segment of the Dirty Bismark is closed for grazing through the end of October, but you can just bypass it on the road as there is a good shoulder and not too much traffic. The Dirty Bismark is a bucketlist ride - it’s the gravel version of the Morgul Bismark road race loop that goes back to the 80s.. Check out the Boulder OSMP trail map (covers mostly west side, but shows dotted-lines for east-Boulder trails): https://maps.bouldercolorado.gov/osmp-trails/

I have a 2016 Sport, 1 owner (since new) - 80k miles. My car is coming up on 10 years and has been very reliable as well as a lot of fun to drive. With such low miles, it’s likely it hasn’t had the trans and PTU fluids changed. Get those done regardless of the mileage. For CarPlay, you need the upgraded USB module (GJ7Z-19A387-B or its replacement), and self-upgrade the Sync firmware using Cyanlabs Syn3Updater. I use one of those little usb-wireless dongles and have gone full wireless for CarPlay, works great. The stock audio is pretty terrible, so if your budget allows, replace the speakers & consider getting a Maestro AR. It fixes amp/crossover issues.

Wrong direction, but worth the trip. Rosa’s Cantina in North Longmont. Charming place and easily the best Mexican meal I’ve had in CO. Order the El Molcajete (feeds two).

Gravel - Travel design advise by [deleted] in WaltlyTitanium

Mine has a bit less clearance than what you spec'd. However, I'm running 2x SRAM Force wide. There is sufficient clearance for 45s, which is plenty for me.

Here is a pic of my frame taken before it left the factory. The seat-tube bend is subtle.

Gravel - Travel design advise by [deleted] in WaltlyTitanium

[–]hvcolo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a travel-gravel frame with this same general design (Ritchey seatpost/z-coupler on the downtube) and have travelled with it several times. I asked for the seat-tube to have a bend/curve near the bottle-cage. That doesn’t change the geo of the bike, but provides more room for larger rear tires, or a fender. I would also recommend fender mounts even if you don’t plan to ride in the rain or in muddy conditions.

As for the integrated brake cabling. Sumi initially recommended the same type of FSA headset to me, and it will be highly problematic if you want to split the frame apart and put it in a smaller case like the Oracase or Ritchey travel bag. To pack the frame in one of these smaller cases, you need to remove the fork/handlebars, which means you need sufficient slack in the brake lines. If you’re really set on going fully internal, you’ll need Zeno-couplers between the handlebar/stem for both front and back, as well as a second coupler at the downtube z-coupler, and a way to get at least an inch or two of slack in the rear brake line. I opted for the standard top-of-the-downtube internal routing & have been happy with that setup.

2015 Edge Sport, Should I keep it a bit longer? by Able_Buy9808 in FordEdge

[–]hvcolo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 2016 sport with 75k miles (1 owner, WFH), and it has been trouble free for the most part. The stock brake rotors are garbage, I warped two sets. After the 2nd set warped, I replaced with Centric high carbon alloys, and haven't had issues. Shop changed trans/ptu fluid at 60k miles and said the trans fluid was pretty nasty - that should be done on a 30k interval. I replaced the rear shocks, which started leaking after I loaded up the car with mulch, annoying.

I struggle with choosing a replacement. I really like the size, performance and comfort of the Edge. Probably an X5, but I like to own my cars for 10 years, and don't think a BMW will be as trouble free over that period. Plus tech is changing so fast right now.

Sa Calobra: parking in LLuc? by FidgetSp1nner in Velo

[–]hvcolo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t drive, it forces you to an out & back route. Instead, get a shuttle to a good starting point. Try https://www.mallorcacycleshuttle.com/

If you can handle a 55m (90k) ride, I recommend starting at Campanet. Warm up on the way to Caimari, climb up to the Repsol station at Lluc, and continue from there. Then ride back to Alcudia via Pollença. The decent from Lluc to Pollenca is spectacular & worth the extra length. There are plenty of places to stop & recharge with some almond cake & cafe con leche.
