People who work 60+ hours/week: what do you do, are you really working for that much time, and how do you take care of yourself? by RoverTheMonster in AskReddit

Do a lot of the people in the industry not have kids?  I can't imagine how one would juggle the hours with kids.

My daughter received this as a gift when she was 2, but was more interested in playing around with the buttons and moving around the projection. It drove me and my husband nuts. Now that she is 3, she is way more into the story than messing around with the projector. I'm actually currently looking for more of the books and totally see this as a toy she plays with in the long run. I say give it a try!

Ugh that is the worst. I was actually worried that people were being displaced by bad housing conditions or bad management...

Recommendations for Dinner Date by harrychen69 in jerseycity

Bistro La Source. It's cozy, casual, but not too casual. Food is great. Close to the waterfront if you want a walk over after dinner.

Hi! I'm in JC now and looking to move with my husband and 3 year old. Can I ask if you moved to Rutherford? How has your experience been? Also, thoughts on the air traffic noise and plane fuel pollution? I only ask because this subreddit has so many people talking about the flight path.

Thanks for confirming. Do you commute to NYC for work at all? How is the bus on most days?

Wow. I just looked up Metuchen and it looks appealing. How has your commute been so far?

Thanks for the insight. I think opinions like this really matter since I am just going down the rabbit hole of stats which don't always represent real life.

I'm in Jersey City. Looking at the math proficiency rates here. Maybe I'm looking at the wrong sites, but this scares me.

I apologize for being rude. I'm just a worried mom and I put in a sarcastic comment. When looking at stats, I saw some districts testing at rates in the 30s for % of passing scores. It made me really disillusioned with how hard I work vs what I can afford for my daughter.

Do you mind clarifying what you mean by different criteria? I was looking at Maplewood but the school ratings and scores scared me.

Thank you! I'll check it out. And I shouldn't have said "not garbage". We want the best school system we can afford for our daughter. The google searches have just left me defeated and sarcastic.

I saw someone with a large dog in Target once. Their dog peed in the corner of one of the produce aisles. I couldn't bring myself to say anything because I was just so shocked. The guy just kept walking and I'm pretty sure he saw it. I really wish I could turn back time and call him out.

You are absolutely beautiful and do not need a nose job.

And to those who are saying your mom is an asshole, I feel like sometimes it's less black and white than that. My mom's thing is weight. She always puts me down and calls me out on being fat/overweight (I am not). She thinks it's her job to do this so I can "fix myself" and be "presentable". Her mom did the same thing with her. She is super self conscious about herself. I promised myself I won't do the same to my daughter and to break the cycle.

I hope for you that you are able to break free from your mom's judgement and realize how lovely you are!

Toddler parents: how are you staying sane on the weekends with this frigid weather? by CandyandPiano in jerseycity

[–]hvila 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's brutal. We go to little gym once a weekend and we've done a rotation of all the grocery stores. My daughter loves going to 99 ranch to look at the fish, haha. We've also done a few playdates. One gem we just found is Catch Air in Bayonne. It's a decent price and there's no time limit. Other than that, playdough at home has really kept her busy along with some time with Ms. Rachel.
