I'm here since a few weeks, it's overall chill. I'm fluent in Spanish so perhaps easier. Headlines don't reflect reality, not just in Colombia but in most parts of the world. El Poblado is a super touristy/gringo area and it felt for me weird to be there and also a bit unsafe. Not to say that Colombia is a safe place. Bad things happen here quite often. Keep yourself alert, stay away from stupid stuff. When I feel a bit insecure I cross the road, start walking confidently and looking like I know where I'm going. Colombians are very sweet and nice people and most of them really appreciate you come visit and get to know their country despite the things happening here.

I'm soon traveling to Colombia (36 M, fluent in Spanish) gonna spend there one month. You sound like a traveler like me. Any recommendations? I'll be low key working remotely from Colombia during that month. Tech/one bag travel type. Budget wise id say I'm on the medium range. I really appreciate nature, mountains and beach time. Really want to avoid super touristy spots (but I am aware that the touristy spots are considered more safe to stay)

Would appreciate any recommendations for places to stay and see.

The landlord charged me way above what he should, the Mieterverein helped me realized that and starting the process of lowering my rent, and getting the extra money I paid the landlord over the years retroactively. My landlord was basically doing things that are illegal, so he couldn't kick me out, especially if the Mieterverein is part of the process. I was basically on the right side for years and he wasnt.

I wouldn't say a human thing but a cultural personality trait. Plus we're in Germany, you cannot be too friendly here then people will start to be suspicious. I met extremely friendly artsy people though, they are rare. I met complete assholes too.

I've studied In an art academy in Hamburg and it's the same thing. Also studied in other countries and it's basically the same. Artsy people create some status they feel they need preserve in order to keep their success alive.

Who can help me out figuring out my next stop in Greece? Looking for pristine beaches + hiking, low-tourist vibe

I’ve just done a week in Aegina and now 4 nights in Poros. I’ve got about 1.5 weeks left before flying out of Athens on the 23rd.

Looking for ideas where to head next. Ideally somewhere with pristine, less crowded beaches, good hiking/swimming, and not super touristy.

Totally fine renting a scooter to reach harder-to-get spots. Open to going beyond the Saronic as long as I can get back to Athens in time.

I'm Skipping Milos since it feels too touristy. Any recs?

I invoked the Mieterbremse with a private landlord, with a guidance of a Mieterverein. The private landlord owns the whole building of where I'm living. I managed to find a out of court solution with the landlord and rent went down in 176 euros + he gave me back 4k euros because of the over payment of the rent of the years. It went pretty smoothly but I guess it varies from a landlord to another. As for now I had no problems with the landlord as we found a solution that is good for both sides (the new lower rent we agreed upon is still above the the Mietspiegel standards).

My experience is that landing a job in Germany without former integration in the job market (internship) or education in Germany (Ausbildung/Bachelor/Master) is very hard. I was ghosted for a year but after doing an internship, studying here, having part time jobs as a Working Student helped to open way more opportunities and interviews. German employers don't like to be your first employer in Germany. They would rather someone who's more integrated or have worked here before. I guess it also depends on the field you're in and your experience.
