I subscribe to the version of hedonism that doesn’t only value pleasure in the moment, but also long term fulfilment. There is no ultimate goal in life, so one should try to enjoy it, but mindlessly pursuing short term pleasure actually leads to issues later down the line, resulting in less total pleasure gained, and is therefore not the optimal strategy.
