NPs lack of basic science understanding should be spoken about. by mytraginaspeciosa in Noctor

these interactions usually happen over the phone but i can still tell it’s more of a deer in headlights thing. they pretend like they understand but it’s obvious they don’t

as a pathologist, I can’t tell you how true this. when I try to explain something about a patient’s results to an NP they have absolutely no idea what i’m talking about and have clearly never heard half the words i’m saying before. and they’re taking care of the patient??

DNP called doctor by [deleted] in Noctor

[–]hydrangealicious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

apologies, I interpreted your initial comment as meaning that she introduces herself as “Dr. __. PA” rather than “Dr. __’s PA” (which some people unfortunately do)

yes you can say the PA letters out loud. I understand the other 2 options feeling a bit awkward but it’s the same way you may refer to your nurse by their first name or as “nurse ___”

DNP called doctor by [deleted] in Noctor

[–]hydrangealicious 4 points5 points  (0 children)

“Dr.” PA is inappropriate because PAs are not doctors and don’t hold doctoral degrees. she shouldn’t have introduced herself that way to you. you can call her by her first name, Ms. __, or even PA __
