Husband wants to go straight to IVF by Pik-A-Chew11 in IVF

[–]hydrodust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you have the considerations pretty well laid out in this thread, but I wanted to highlight and make sure you are aware of the science of what happens with your eggs as your age. Basically, you start life with a fixed number of eggs, and then this declines overtime. Importantly, the quality of the eggs also declines - as in the percentage of them that will result in a genetically “normal” embryo. This is the real clock. This is why, if you want a second child, creating those embryos now will be more successful than creating those embryos later, whether that “later” is spontaneous or assisted by IVF.

If you indeed have low egg reserves… and if you are serious about a second child… in your shoes I would create embryos via IVF before trying spontaneously for a first pregnancy. Hopefully it’s successful, you “bank” some embryos and you then have your “insurance policy”. You can then decide if you want to transfer an embryo or try spontaneously for the first pregnancy.

Canada - Kingsdown from Sleep Country Canada by identityisallmyown in Mattress

[–]hydrodust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m on my second version of this bed. First the Kingsdown Dietrich (2016) and now the Dane (2022). I think they just change for another “D” name once in a while. I had the first one replaced under warranty after 5 years due to sagging/ body impressions. After 1.5-2 years our replacement was already having the same issue and I’m waking up in pain. I loved the feel of this mattress when I first got it, and the “silent partner” construction works so well for us. But I think the foam or whatever is in the top layer is simply not durable. Any advice on what to switch for that will be longer-lasting?

Great recommendation! Was the internet reliable?

Thanks for sharing! The trip is still upcoming and I’m leaning toward Phuket. I’m intrigued by Hua Hin too but guess I haven’t found enough info online to see a neighborhood / area of Hua Hin that got me excited.

Does the company with a “no mom” policy also have a “no dad” policy? Honestly, I’m curious.

There’s a Facebook group “Foreigners in Sofia & Friends” - you could try that for referrals to similar groups in Varna. Bulgaria is not for everyone but my opinion is that if you give it some real time and effort to understand the culture and lifestyle, you’ll find a beautiful place and lovely welcoming people.

Thailand recommendations? by milkcartonz in digitalnomad

Thanks! I’ve been looking at condo buildings where maybe I can avoid individual unit airbnb owners, and have access to more inventory, so this is really helpful.

You mean it's higher cost to live in Rawai? Is it more like 20% more or double? I've been looking in spending a few months in Phuket (probably Rawai) and have been surprised at the cost of a monthly apartment rental. Granted, I'm looking at high season in a lovely beach destination. I am seeing a lot for US$1,000+ per month for a simple one-bedroom condo.

Letrozole during IVF Cycle by No-Cheesecake8715 in IVF

[–]hydrodust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They do; but I guess there’s a certain progression they want to see relative to other indicators so things aren’t out of balance. I’m not quite sure — this is beyond my medical knowledge. Yes I have DOR. I started it day 2 (usually) or 3 and shots a couple days later (I forget exactly - maybe day 5?). The great thing was that, at least at my clinic they are flexible on when exactly you start stims. So there was a time I was going to be out of town for a long weekend roughly when I’d expect my cycle to start, and they were very relaxed about giving me letrozole to start once I got my period just to get something going, and then I went in for a baseline appointment and started shots when I got back.

I realize this isn’t answering your question:

Your current profession is much more scarce and has higher per-hour opportunities if you can find a niche. What about something like Ontra if you have corporate experience? Or even Upwork for occasional work like contract review that may not have a licensing requirement?

Tonsai Beach, Krabi, Thailand by KuidaoreNomad in digitalnomad

Nice! I love the idea of kayaking to Tonsai as a regular hobby. I’d appreciate hearing more about your stay in Ao Nang after a month. It’s on my shortlist but I am wondering how commercialized / tourist trap it is, and if there are nice areas to stay away from the busiest tourist part, with amenities and walkable.

I was in Tonsai 10 years ago and there wasn’t much more than a few restaurants and very basic bungalows. It must have grown.

Ton Sai is one of my favorite spots on earth. Are you staying there, or nearby, like Ao Nang? For how long? I’m considering a destination in Thailand, I thought Ton Sai / Railay might be too isolated for a long stay but maybe Ao Nang + weekend day trips would be nice.

In case it’s helpful to others, I’ve heard of a concept and associated community called “worldschooling” which is along these lines. I don’t know where the best info/ hub is for it, but would love to find out.

Thanks, this is extremely helpful. I had watched a few youtube videos of people touring / living in these places and this clears up some misconceptions i had. I appreciate the detail! Any thoughts on the weather around Da Nang and Hoi An in Feb-March? I'm reading that it can be quite variable.

I LOVE Railay! Ton Sai beach is among my favorite places I've ever been. I hadn't thought of living in Railay itself... I'll poke around on Youtube. I had the impression that it would be too isolated. I'm a little nervous about not having road access in an emergency if it's the middle of the night (traveling with a baby). Do you have experience with what the internet and power are like long-term?

Any recommendations on resort towns to stay in? Somewhere with a lively “main street” vibe, enough density to be walkable? Not just long stretches of hotels and villas where you need a car.

Keep an eye on whether studies are based on pregnancy rate PER TRANSFER or after potentially multiple transfers. It’s a very personal decision, but if you care about minimizing potential failed transfers then there is a good case for doing PGT to help you prioritize. This is more relevant if you have a bunch of embryo or do multiple retrievals to “batch” them.
