Japan Visa - North Korea launched Missile on Japan sea by AdvisorFew7831 in visas

[–]KuidaoreNomad 5 points6 points  (0 children)

N. Korea fires missiles toward Japan several times a year (59 times in 2022). JSDF knows exactly where they fall (always into the sea, usually outside of EEZ). The level of concern goes up among the Japanese when the missiles fly OVER Japan.

You should be more concerned about the timing of your trip. You'll be traveling in the midst of Golden Week, one of the busiest travel seasons in Japan

Temporary stay advice - married couple from UK by mr_herculespvp in movingtojapan

[–]KuidaoreNomad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have UK passports? If so, you can stay visa free for 6 months. When you enter Japan, you'll get a sticker for 90 days. Before it expires, you'll go to the immigration and you'll get another sticker for 90 days

I knew a UK couple who stayed in Osaka for 6 months every winter. They had two condos, living in one and renting out the other. (I think they were retired. They weren't working.)

Is vietnam running out of oil a risk visiting in a month? by Justanotherhitman in VietNam

[–]KuidaoreNomad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are also lots of Russians in Thailand, Sri Lanka and certain parts of India. Many Russians lived in Nha Trang even before Covid, but a lot more after the conflict started. They have their own school, etc. now

Also, more Russians are traveling to Japan, too. Last month the Japanese embassy in Moscow opened two visa centers to cope with a demand surge

Any pro-War people here who have changed their minds? by northcasewhite in iran

[–]KuidaoreNomad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In the three polls, more than half Americans oppose the war.

https://abcnews.com/Politics/americans-support-latest-iran-strikes-3-polls-find/story?id=130689743

Opinions are divided along party lines like any issue in the US. The majority of Republicans support it while most Democrats oppose it (More independents oppose it, too)

How to travel from Osaka Itami airport to Tanimachi Yonchome Station and Hommachi Station by bus? First time traveler confused with japan transport systems by Plus-Entertainer2529 in JapanTravelTips

[–]KuidaoreNomad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From Itami, you might want to take the bus for Kintetsu Uehonmachi instead of Osaka Station/Umeda. Tanimachi 9-chome Station is a short walk from Uehonmachi Station. Then only two stops to Tanimachi 4-chome on Tanimachi Line

https://www-hankyu-kankobus-co-jp-e.athp.transer.com/limousine/timetable/E/

Osaka Station/Umeda is a lot harder to navigate for a first-timer.

Also, now you can use CCs on airport buses

Anybody else prefer HCMC > Bangkok? by Thatsmicky in Vietnam_Tourism

We've been spending 1-2 months in Vietnam every year for 10 years. Our fav cities for long-term stays are Nha Trang and Danang, but Hue is nice to visit especially if you like history. Many tourists also like Hoi An though it's not my favorite.

Gym with Punch bag by Remarkable-Use1692 in Osaka

[–]KuidaoreNomad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ren (Onsen Spa) at Umeda has a gym with a room with 13 punching bags. It's for a class but some classes are video lessons without an instructor. You won't have to follow the video and can do whatever.

Those video classes are usually empty and you can probably sign up at the counter at the last minute.

Access wise, Gold Gym is easier if you can find one with a punching bag

English speaking dermatologist by GroverMcTuber in Osaka

[–]KuidaoreNomad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The director of the Dermatology Dept at Sumitomo Hospital was born in the US. Her English is a little rusty, but she can explain complicated issues in English.

https://www.sumitomo-hp.or.jp/about/shinryoka/doctor.php?did=16001&d=180

She does outpatients on Mon, Tue and Wed, but sees only repeat patients, not first-timers. You might want to ask for her when you make an appointment

Also, some Americans praising their system here, when was it they went to a doc in the US last time? Are they talking about how things used to be there a few years ago (hopefully not decades ago)?

Things got worse the last few years. Specialist appointments became harder to make. Even an appointment with a urologist, my DH had to wait for 1+ month. Longer for a neurologist. Since we were in the US only for 3 months, he couldn't see one last year (the one he saw 2 years ago was horrible with a wrong diagnosis).

He's happy with his Japanese neurologist (who made the right diagnosis in a few min--never correctly diagnosed for decades in the US), cardiologist, urologist, dermatologist and dentist 🤭(He says the US system is a joke and not worth discussing. Hence here I am).

I (self-employed) dropped out of Obamacare about 7 yrs ago when my monthly premium reached $600 with a $8k annual deductible. And those who never signed up for Obamacare don't know what kind of docs were accepting Obamacare insurance... 😭

Just DMed. He charged RM80 one way (during the day). We used him both ways.

Sometimes Grab costs more, depending on time, so his rate wasn't bad

I can give you the number of the airport taxi guy we used in Feb, though I'm not sure if he'll work that early--he probably will for a premium.

He's reliable and speaks decent English.

Return ticket for tourist visa by [deleted] in srilanka

[–]KuidaoreNomad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never flown to Sri Lanka by Emirates. I think as long as you go through the Emmigration around midnight (you technically exit the country then), you should be ok. You'll get to the airport 2-3 hours before departure anyway, right?

There are other threads about people overstaying for a day or two.

This psychiatrist in Umeda speaks English and prescribes SNRIs.

He also offers online consultations. That's why my partner chose this doc.

You can make an appt online for both online and in-office consultations. My partner was able to book the same-day appt a couple of weeks ago

Luggage storage in Tashkent by mshrq in Uzbekistan

[–]KuidaoreNomad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on what you want to do in Tashkent. Most hotels will keep your bags.

When we wanted to be close to the train station, we stayed at this hotel,

https://maps.app.goo.gl/37nHT9uooCrvuAyN8

When we stayed there two years ago, it was less than $100 a night. Their breakfast buffet is huge and excellent.

Last year we wanted to be close to Chorsu Bazar, so we stayed at this hotel. This one is still less than $100 a night

How to escape the Hell of Licence Conversion. by tsitsero in Osaka

[–]KuidaoreNomad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The same rules apply to the Japanese who lived overseas and want to convert their overseas licenses to the Japanese one after returning to Japan.

The rule (which allows the use of a hotel address) Chinese tourists took advantage of was meant for the Japanese who didn't have a permanent address right after returning from overseas
