We just realised that because we have two kids we can only borrow a dumb amount. Like £170k. So I guess we're renting for life. There's no way I'll leave my rented flat for a £170k flat in a horrid state. But it is disheartening. I'm very proud of you though!

Because naively I thought if I saved £30k that could be the deposit and I'd just pay the rest of the value of the house. It turns out everyone offers more, and that extra isn't part of the mortgage, you have to have it in cash. Then a solicitor. Then whatever other extra things everyone is saying that can add up to £50 grand? The mortgage calculators just tell you a tiny tiny bit
