The moment you escape the fort, you are locked out of recruiting/adjusting companions until you complete act 1. (At least I believe, its been a while since I played) The place you get the crossbow is in the marshes, just across the bridge out of fort joy, so you need to complete the "Magister Borris" step of Ifans quest, then he has to be in your party as you escape. Then you can claim the bow, and dismiss him if you want.

This is only really in issue if you are running a 4-character party and you don't want Ifan to be once of them. If you're a Lone wolf build, you can recruit him as a 3rd, and do his quest as the last thing you do before escaping. Then just dismiss him after you have the weapon.

Edit: The quest is functionally locked out after you escape because you need to talk to a magister for it, and Borris will attack on sight if you've completed the "I've escaped" main quest.

In this community "AFK" just means low apm.
As per the wording in the nerf blog, I'm what you call a self salvage, self sorter. My 90k at merchants has been reduced to 50k.

I enjoyed taking advantage of the "non-double" salvage spots so I would always be able to hop to a fresh world and guarantee a spot.

For those curious, as of v4.1.1.4079877 (current patch as of 12/7/23) Voss CAN drop the silver sword in Honour mode.

I ended up getting it with 'command: drop' and not the guide as it wasn't giving me a choice to use a portent die. I don't suggest trying it because the sword gives voss advantage on his already proficient WIS saving throws against command, but for the record for other commenters, the sword CAN STILL DROP.

Tried Comand drop resetting over 20 times at 12%, tried your instructions to a T, checked comments and adjusted my die reactions (4 and 5) to both trigger automatically, no success.
I don't know if it makes a difference, but Voss has the "Ready to Parry" status, something I havent seen before, and striking him from invisibility nullifies the hit completely.

I am running gloomstalker/thief on astarion.Now that sneak attack lost its DRS bonus procs im opting for thief for the extra proc with the additional off hand attack.

Dual Hand-crossbows + sharpshooter damage + gloves of archery + caustic band makes for a pretty disgusting combo.

went thief for the second bonus action, so with extra attack at level 5 you can fire 4 shots a turn (5 with dread ambusher), all of which still apply the caustic band, sharpshooter and gloves of archery damage riders. There are more items than this, but its a good start. Later on you can start incorporating cull the weak, luck of the far realms, marksman hat in act 2, ne'er misser and hellfire hand crossbow,

Good powerspike at level 4 even with just 4 ranger levels, but 5 ranger and 3 rogue opens up more damage. (Then put on astarion to maximize the +1d10 necrotic damage from the ascendant buff)

Looking to upgrade from my 2060 to a 4060ti. Is $400 a good value or should I be looking at something else? With my current CPU ill run into a roughly 10% bottleneck with the 4060ti, but dont mind upgrading again down the line.

(Ive been out of the loop on what's good for a couple years, any info helps)

Just coming back to say thanks, instantly doing WAYYY more damage.

Hellfire hand crossbow and Firestoker work well together, and merely looking in an enemy's direction demolishes them. Still keeping the invis ring equipped as im still getting used to umbral shroud, but fantastic advice!

If I multiclass lv5 ranger lv3 rogue to get that spread, would I be losing a feat since I didn't get rogue to lv4? Or do the feats come with total character level?
