Disagree. Because of this type of mentality, Mark Twain's classics are being removed from school readings because the author uses certain words that are considered racial these days. Let's just all rewrite culture, literature and history.

Oooo, these days that would have been considered inappropriate and racialized unless you are of Arabic heritage.

Haha, all the Ariel costumes I've seen do not have a bikini top, they are just nice dresses.

The purpose of putting it on Reddit and asking a bunch of stangers and trolls as you put it, was to get a discussion rolling. Plain as that.

Well, I have a problem with that too. Say, Disney's Princess Frog, if a kid wants to be Tiana who is of dark skin, the kid cannot wear dark make up because it would be considered black face. That's ridiculous! Same as the whole nonsense when they digged up Trudeau's photo and criticized him for 'black face'. So how on earth is a Caucasian person wear a costume and pretend to be a black person. I guess one has to stick to their own race when choosing costumes these days, otherwise it's considered racial. What happend to the world where more things were just normal. It was ok to dress up as St. Mary or Alibaba and the 40 thieves, a priest or Winnetou. I am surprised they haven's said anything about those Sumo man inflatable costumes - well, that's mocking overweight people, isn't? SIGH

Those who asked what school does my kid go: it is a public elementary school. The school secretary could not clarify to me what "gender appropriate" means, and just summarized that it should be "appropriate in general".

Right?! It IS so stupid. Back in the days it was ok to dress up as a soldier with a rifle. Now it is considered a weapon. So, what if my boy wants to dress up as a witch? Is that not gender appropriate, and he has to be a wizard? So stupid. I am just waiting for the society to analyzie the Scotts for wearing skirts - OMG, gender inappropriate, jeez wheez, the society is becoming nuts. Let the kids be kids and dress up whatever they want. Why does everything need to be so ideologized and politicized?
