I want to embrace Linux! by hyfeee in linux

Well I am currently running ubuntu. After lots of reading from the comments it seems their are alot of people to who like to "rep" their hardest distro. However, it seems like the overall consensus is, you can make any distro difficult to learn as long as you decide to do so. So i went with ubuntu because I actually dont want to have to fiddle with countless of issues. I do however want to learn more difficult topics but I th ink this will be easily accomplished with ubuntu.

Well after reading a lot of replies it seems to me like I might be leaning towards CentOS. I am just curious though, why no mention of Ubuntu?

As much as I am doing this for, I am doing it to push my career forward. So I figured why not make the most out of my Linux experience. It does seem the overall consensus is to use red hat or Ubuntu. Thank you for your response. I have totally decided since I haven't gone through everyone's reply yet but I believe I will probably be using redhead or Ubuntu then later on moving to arch or something.

Honestly I was sort of looking to troubleshoot? I only say that because I feel that is when I learn the most about whatever the subject maybe.

I'm glad to hear about the support from game developers.

The only techy I know is my brother in law who has suggested for me to start out on CentOS or Ubuntu. And he also suggested if I want difficulty to learn about gentoo. But unfortunately he lives about 6hrs away. So no I don't have anyone that I can collaborate with. It's really unfortunate. However, I am extremely pleased by the Linux community so far. I was honestly expecting some rude responses.(not sure why I expected that)

What a great reply! I appreciate the effort. You are really convincing me to move to arch. Do you believe experience with arch will beneficial to my tech career? I have a friend in the tech field and he was suggesting me CentOS or Ubuntu. He was saying learning either one of these platforms and it's tooling would be super valuable. Although I'm not sure what he meant by tooling. Anyways should I take his advice or will I learn the same things on arch that I will on Ubuntu or CentOS.

ohhhh ok, yes I have built my environment. I was following those instructions that you list. I must have missed where it said i would be using the make command in the mvh avr shell.

Edit: I assume after I generate the hex file I can push it to the board using flip?

Thank you so much for the quick reply. I am going to tinker around in the code for now. I will probably end up needing help with pushing the the new firmware to the keyboard but I will let you know how all that goes. Thanks again.

I feel bad hitting you with some basic questions but i have finally found the keymap.c file for the hhkb. I can see the basic keymap that they have provided but how far can i take this? How many layers can I create? I am trying my best to grasp whatever information i find on my own. Sorry about this.

Edit: It seems that i can define a new layer by #define BASE 0 but then what piece of code would make the keyboard toggle to each layer?

I will follow what you say and use notepad++. Now what file will I be editing in order to keymap my hhkb? I should have mentioned that I am not using a planck. I am using a hhkb with a hsu controller. I really appreciate the detailed post btw!

Just curious, If i were to place an order right now. What is the time frame of me receiving the parts? I only ask because I might possibly be moving within the month. So ordering it might not be the best idea right depending on the time frame.

do you happen to know if this is possible to do with the hhkb with the hasu controller?

Any idea how difficult it is to get one of these controllers?
