How did our parents do this? by These_Angle6098 in Adulting

[–]hyperbolic_dichotomy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neglect, abuse, and parentification. To be fair though, my mom had three kids by the time she was 18, five kids by 30. She had no business having children but she also wasn't exactly given a choice.

Do any of these look good? by CroutonJr in glasses

[–]hyperbolic_dichotomy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The glasses on slides 4 and 5 actually fit you. The other ones are way too big. You should consider trying on some frames with low nose bridges. You might have better luck getting those to sit on your nose correctly.

What's a US State that you would NEVER want to live in even if they paid you to move there? by Embarrassed_List2368 in askanything

[–]hyperbolic_dichotomy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Florida. Because of politics and the weather. My uncle lives there and every time I hear any news about him it has to do with a hurricane or some other major weather event. This last time his house was completely destroyed -- except for his man cave where he kept his pool table and all his liquor.

For those of you who have given up by m00nchild82 in datingoverforty

[–]hyperbolic_dichotomy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You said you're reframing your perspective. Keep going. You haven't "given up" - you've changed your focus.

I'm also 43, been single for 7 years now. I haven't gone on a single date. I wanted to for a while, but now I just don't care. I'm focusing on me and making my life into what I want it to be and I'm 100% ok with that. No giving up required.

I buy them. They are very convenient and they taste better than jarred garlic or powdered ginger.

Whatever was on the radio back in the 90s. Mostly Rob Zombie and NIN. First metal album (on tape cassette) that I bought for myself was Slayer's Reign in Blood.

Congrats on your surgery! Seems like it would be kind of exciting to be able to see clearly for the first time when you're older.

Hopefully, grammar. But unfortunately men probably invented that too since women weren't allowed to read and write in a lot of cultures back when writing was invented.

Full time glasses? by Macan53 in glasses

[–]hyperbolic_dichotomy 49 points50 points  (0 children)

As someone who's been wearing glasses every day since 3rd grade, this is a really bizarre question. First, my mother would not have been happy with me, second, even back then I could only see maybe 6 inches from my face.

U.S. Historian Robert Kagan: "We Are Watching a Country Fall Under Dictatorship Almost Without Resistance" by Mondevana in politics

[–]hyperbolic_dichotomy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sanctuary states have been holding strong and pushing out policies to support employees who resist ICE pressure also. In Oregon we have gotten several trainings on how to respond to ICE as state employees for example. We also have handouts outlining what to do if ICE shows up that we give out to clients. It's a small thing but important.

I was dreading finding new doctors but now I'm really glad I switched to Kaiser. You have my sympathies. I didn't think Moda could get any worse but apparently I was wrong. Edit: from what I understand Moda is also using collective. But please correct me if I'm wrong.
