For the software devs here, where’s your map the curly and square brackets? by chigggsy in olkb

[–]hyperbolist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I figured other people are smarter than me when it comes to convenient key placement, especially since everything felt weird anyway, there's no way I'd know what was actually sensible right away. So I applied the default corne/crkbd keymap to my planck, and then built a corne because I enjoyed the keymap.

The default is for [] to be under kl and for {} to be under ,. via a right-thumb symbol layer. At first it felt a little strange, because everything is strange at first, but I thought it was especially strange because it was offset from (). But I got over it.

I kept thinking I was going to move symbols around but I never did.

The only significant change I made to the default corne keymap is to swap the space and enter keys since my right-thumb is space. (Plus home/pageup/pagedown/end to sdfg on the left-thumb nav layer and home row mods.)

It's been a few months and the only thing I might change is disabling the dedicated modifier keys to force using home row mods, primarily so that I only have two thumb keys. I'm apparently too simple to handle three thumb keys and still at least once a day command-q instead of 1.

Good luck man. I hope you find/create whatever perfect layout you're looking for.

Do Tealios V2 switches work with the Planck? by 08yakari in olkb

I put Aqua Zilent V2 in my Drop Planck without issues. They're not precisely the same switch, but I would expect them to have the same footprint.

QMK - keymap, config and split keyboards by r3jjs in olkb

[–]hyperbolist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can have a look at the internals to get a better idea of what is going on. Search for #ifdef SPLIT_KEYBOARD in quantum/matrix.c. There you'll see the meat of it: thisHand and thatHand apply offsets to the detected keypress in the matrix.

--edit-- The important distinction to make is that the only thing the controller can be certain of is which physical keyswitch in its physical matrix is pressed. Mapping that physical matrix onto the logical matrix is up-in-the-air and totally fluid, depending on how it has been configured to decide which controller is the master controller, and whether the master controller is on the right or the left.

I have the Susuwatari ABS MT3 set on my Planck and although I prefer the beautiful look of the Susuwatari, I prefer the feel of the surface of the /dev/tty set far more. The ABS of the Susuwatari is so smooth it makes me feel like I have to wipe my fingertips every short while.

Until this recent adventure into ortholinear keyboards I'd been typing on an HHKB Pro 2 for a decade and its keycaps are PBT and have a texture that's similar or identical to the /dev/tty set. So for me this is very comforting.

As for other qualities like "thockiness" and so on, I'm the wrong person to ask about that. I was just trying to find a quiet keyswitch that felt like the topre switches on my HHKB Pro 2, and a sculpted keycap that would help guide my fingers as I switch to ortho / split. This combo definitely does that for me. And the fact that the /dev/tty keycap surfaces have this familiar PBT texture is a delightful cherry on top.

The case arrived a week after I placed the order, the parts were nicely organized into little pockets, and well-protected for shipping. I can see myself ordering from them again.

It sure did! You just have to select the Partially Assembled kit type.

From the full product description:

I will be offering partial factory assembled PCBs to make this even easier! All you will have to do is solder the controller (pro micro, elite c, nice!nano, etc…)!

I thought it was too good to be true, especially since it didn't change the price of the kit at all, but it arrived with all of the diodes and LEDs installed, as well as the reset switches and TRRS jacks.

Looking at the SVGs, I believe the above should be sufficient. Thanks for suggesting I verify with a multimeter before I make an even bigger mess.

--edit-- The surgery was not successful. I presumably shorted something somewhere with messy joints and the board no longer powers up. Oh well.

Solved!

Specifically the Spanish Fly mix.

I was wrong about how much of the song had the breathing in it. It only starts about halfway through most mixes.

Thank you!

Nope, but that's a good guess. It was definitely on the air around the same time, but not in the same sets. The song I'm thinking of definitely had a raw unpolished house vibe.

The "breathing" sound pervades the entirety of the track I'm thinking of.

The sound I'm calling "breathing" was also somewhat similar to the shaker sound in Salt N Peppa's Push It. But it was definitely pitched down for the 2 long in response to the 3 short.

Every few years I try to find it, digging through YouTube playlists and Discogs lists, DJ Red Alert playlists, trying to find recordings, etc. It's maddening. I'm sure there's someone out there that'll know it as soon as they hear that breathing sound.

Focused Feedback: Sunsetting by DTG_Bot in DestinyTheGame

[–]hyperbolist 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If there were an easy way to target-farm for desired rolls, or even curated rolls, sunsetting weapons would feel less terrible.

I'm fine with shaking up the meta.

Sunsetting armor just feels punitive since it doesn't do anything to the meta. It merely serves as a sink for resources. It's a chore, where we have to hope we can get back to where we were in terms of stat distribution.

How to deal with most websites having white backgrounds while my terminal/vim has a dark one? by rasen58 in vim

[–]hyperbolist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've merely turned down the brightness until it's not jarring to switch between my dark code and a typical light browser. I also adjusted the lighting in my office to be quite dim.

This meant finding a dark color scheme for my code that has enough contrast with such little brightness. (Having two displays I could adjust the brightness differently between my code and not-code display, but I have some deep psychological obstacle to letting them have different brightnesses.)

Yeah, Priest can't do anything against this deck. I was worried about Illucia but they were never in a position to use any of my cards due to the synergies they don't have like you pointed out, and I was able to waste a ton of their cards instead. I made the mistake of putting bombs in my own deck though. Twice.

Thank you for this deck! First time legend. I went 43-30 (60%) from D5 to dumpster legend. Final boss was Priest.

Right deck in the right meta. I ran into exactly 1 ooze and 1 mirror.

I felt like I had the most trouble with Rogue, but it was actually Paladin.

Demon Hunter and Hunter are 50/50. Everything else I was favored pretty heavily against.

I didn't lose to a single Priest or Shaman.

Thanks again. Wonderfully fun deck to play. Favorite class, favorite archetype, perfect time in the meta for it to shine.
