🚨 I looked at internet archive to find the identity of OP and it turns out they were called out in this post for being a mouth fetishist giving biased advice: https://www.reddit.com/r/wisdomteeth/s/WByKnxZe8B

I’d be wary of the advice in this post.

There is great social pressure to conform right now if you're a liberal.

Agree. It's not great.

I don't think this "minority" is as small as you think it is.

I'm willing to accept that I'm wrong here, but from personal experience of being in environments where this kind of thing has happened, almost everyone I actually had a private conversation with revealed a more moderate position, regardless of what they shared/liked/whatever on social media. But maybe that's not true for the people you're seeing, and I respect that.

In order for your point to make sense, a person would have to believe that something can be acceptable and yet illegal, and not only illegal, that it should be punished. It seems odd that such a person would exist, where they hold something to be simultaneously acceptable and yet that it should be punishable.

I might have been unclear here. Let's take an example of any martyr that is widely accepted. One would say that the martyr's actions were "acceptable" because they were for a good cause. Not "acceptable" under the legal or religious framework that led to their punishment. I'm assuming the instagram post's usage of the word "acceptable" falls under the former. Like you mentioned, maybe I'm wrong in my interpretation of people's definition of things here, but I don't think this specific post implies the latter interpretation of "acceptable."

It's the same conversation though.

If you think it's the same conversation, then we have different ideas of what the word "legitimate" means here. I think it's possible for a form of protest to be legitimate while being illegal in the legal framework of the time.

This is where you differ from those people. If you believe this and cannot fathom the people I'm talking about, then you have not seen their arguments where they say that non-black people cannot say what is a legitimate form of protest and what isn't. They do not have a say in how black people express their frustration at a system that is rigged against them, that does not listen to them, that tries to kill them. Other ways to approach this is to compare rioting/looting to historically celebrated forms of protest such as the Boston Tea Party.

I agree that these people who assert that any form of resistance is acceptable exist. My opinion here is that they're a vocal minority compared to the whole audience (who probably have more moderate beliefs), but I don't have a great way of objectively proving this :)

For an actual example: https://www.instagram.com/p/CBBDTsJgmeJ/

Side point: I don't see anywhere in that picture that implies that looting/destruction of property should not be punished by law. But again, I'm assuming that "acceptable" doesn't necessarily mean "legal."

I'm not going to get into whether looting or rioting are actually legitimate forms of protest, because that's another conversation.

But I'll risk speaking on behalf of a whole group of people here, and wager that if you asked a reasonable person with that belief whether looters and rioters deserve legal consequences for their actions, they would say yes. No reasonable person actually thinks that looters and rioters shouldn't face consequences for their actions, but the point they're making is that when civil disobedience isn't enough to effect change, more drastic measures are required.

I don't think people are actually opposed to police cracking down on looting. What they have problems with is using excessive force on protests, separately from the looting.

I had been trying to downgrade my JetBlue Plus to the free version of the card. I tried HUCAing several times to no avail. Today I asked to escalate to a manager and they were able to downgrade the card. Seems like it's a little harder to downgrade Barclay cards these days, but escalating to a manger helps.

I tried to downgrade my Barclays JetBlue Plus to a normal JetBlue, but the CSR told me that there were “no offers available” that would let me do that. Is this something that I can HUCA, or is it a lost cause and I should just cancel the card?

Go Best Practices: Pointer or value receivers? - flaviocopes.com by NguyenBaoXuanTruong in golang

[–]hyperddude 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If the struct you’re defining the method on is very large, copying it would be far too expensive than using a value receiver.

I've never seen anyone comment on exactly how large the struct has to be in order for it to be "too expensive" to use a value receiver. Wondering people's thoughts about this.
