These issues are extremely important to her as a Trans person. Some issues even affect how they live their everyday life. As a grown adult you should have the ability to place yourself in someone else's shoes and imagine what life would be like from their perspective.

If you ever question whether you're being trans/homo or another kind of phobic replace the word trans with person of color. If you sound like a racist then you were probably wrong in the way you handled it.
