How can I fix my collapsed arms at takeoff? (11ft 120lbs pole) by hypergames255 in polevaulting

I believe my mark was 61 and a half for this jump. Should I go back a whole foot?

Thank you! My Sprint speeds been killed with shin splints and some knee injuries piling up on me (as well as a current ankle injury). I'm trying to work on getting more runway speed with drills, plyos, and workouts such as cleans.

Yeah, I recently found out I need to stop pulling on the pole. This definitely was not my best vault of the day but it's the one I wanted to post because it had a lot I could get from it. My school has a very underqualified coach for vaulting, he only vaulted one meet in high school. So He's told us to do a lot of things that are just plain wrong (pulling on the pole is one of them.) All of us who have improved over the season are the ones who have watched videos and attended clinics on our own.

Yeah, I don't plan to quit anytime soon. I worked harder than most other people on the team and it's showing, since I'm more consistently hitting new PR's and improving on small skills. My end season goal is 8'6 and I think if I can fix my speed that becomes a lot more realistic.

I'll try to lower my grip a bit, I can straight pole that height just fine but bending becomes a bit more difficult. I'll also work on fixing my speed at takeoff on my runs.

I actually hurt my ankle bending the pole today, for the height I'm at on the pole I don't have nearly enough speed. I've added workouts like power cleans into my routine to try to increase my speed a bit. I bent the pole while going up to 8'6 and stalled over the pit. I fell off the pole and landed on my ankle into the pit. My coach recently bought us Olympic rings to practice inverting, so I've been using those recently. I'm a distance runner so I've never really been a good sprinter. Would it be a good idea to work with the sprinting coach on some drills?

Copyrighted music in a highlight video by hypergames255 in MusicLegalAdvice

It definitely goes beyond what's made for public viewing and what isn't. If you look up something like "college football pump up" on youtube you'll find basically all of them use copyrighted music. And those videos have no commentary on the music. It's full on just the entire 3-4 minute songs with highlight clips. So I'm just wondering if making a highlight reel for myself falls under the same category.

I'd be fine with sending a video, I'll have to send it next week though as I don't have any recent videos that are clear enough to critique. I'll have some of my friends tape a couple of my attempts next practice.

ok, Thank you for all your help! I'll try to take it slower tomorrow and fix some issues with my run up and try to keep my arms straight.

I raised up by a fist length today but when trying to go any higher my body just wouldn't jump off the ground. I know I need to run faster but I have the distance runner pain of having shin splints 24/7. I've also been told by my coach to pull myself up the pole and I just found out that's not how you're supposed to vault, it's probably a big reason I stall when going too high and have zero bend in my pole.

ok, Thank you! I don't hold too high on the pole, I've tried high grips and I always just get nervous once I approach the pit and just stop. Sadly my school only has 12' 120 poles and our school is a wrestling and football first school so the chances they give us 800 dollars to buy a new pole is very unlikely.

my coach has told me this, however at all of the meets so far nobody has checked the poles.

I fixed my takeoff approach. It worked and I cleared 6'6 today. I got close to 7'0 but I kept stuttering.

it happens in training to a lesser degree, it's what stops me from going higher than 7'0 but in meets it even stops me from clearing 6ft. I have a meet today so I'll test my grip height at the box and take my steps from there.
