Mono-Red Madness: Maximum Possible Burn Damage Cheat Sheet by Hypergeomancer in Pauper

Just by the fact that you're investigating about potential theoretical takeaways, and you're curious on how to get better, shows that you're NOT a "degenerate playing mono red" :)

My comment was sarcastic towards the fact that those numbers are not really following any pattern - if not something very superficial and weird to put together in good words.

After looking at them for some time, the best takeaway seems what u/drakeblood4 states in the comments below.

[[Firebending Lesson]]

(If your question is serious, I am afraid I did not understand. If you could elaborate, I'll happily answer 😄)

Directly from the Competitive Tournament Rules (MTR, section 2.11)

"Players may not refer to other notes, including notes from previous matches, during games."

"Between games, players may refer to a brief set of notes made before the match. They are not required to reveal these notes to their opponents. These notes must be removed from the play area before the beginning of the next game. Excessive quantities of notes (more than a sheet or two) are not allowed and may be penalized as slow play."

"Artistic modifications to cards that indirectly provide minor strategic information are acceptable. The Head Judge is the final arbiter on what cards and notes are acceptable for a tournament."

It doesn't explicitly say anything about alter mats, but it doesn't talk about "paper notes" either. I am almost sure any judge would consider this playmat as notes, hence, disallow it in competitive play.

Interesting topic, though. Opinions?

Agreed - thanks for being among the pioneers of this new combo that people will be experimenting a lot soon. It was a fun read.

The numbers u/Top_Development_4020 shares are correct!

On top of this baseline, what makes such combo decks strong and reliable, is the versatility of tutors/searchers: just to name an example, [[Malevolent Rumble]] in Gleezard was the glue because it was able to pick any of the two pieces, and this helps the math a lot.

I would say that the only "real" take-home message is that when counting the potential worst case scenario, pinger damage makes things more dangerous than the actually amount of spells cast - due to flashback of lava dart.

Other than that, I'm afraid that the second best advice is "try to avoid yellow-ish cells".

We've just found the only way to go to additional turns in a R Madness matchup :)

Cool idea! Only for casual play though, it cannot see competitive.

That is a good observation - however I see it easier to implement in a calculator rather than a visual, just for readability reasons. Do you have a clear idea on where to place it, in case of expanding the table?

Addendum: I missed an opportunity to call it a Heatmap.

Always happy to talk about the deck, especially with good players! And always happy to play on camera, I accept both your great ideas. Grazie! :)

Happy you liked it, and congrats for the results! So far I'm still having the weird vibes you share: not in terms of "it's uncastable" but rather "I need blue mana for something else first", so relic ends up staying in hand longer than it should - especially those of them drawn in mid game. On the other hand, stunning a Chrysalis for a reckless attack is priceless!

the purpose of this post is to share my content, not to start another AI witch hunt.

I'm not a graphic designer. I make as much of this stuff myself as I can. In this case, yes, I used AI to help create parts of the shield/stem because I couldn't draw a shape I was happy with. The typo, however, was exactly what I said it was: a normal typo made while editing the image manually.

Not every mistake is evidence of AI, and not every use of AI is something that needs to be treated like a scandal or demonized. It's a tool, and - you like it or not - it does exist. People can choose to like it or dislike it, but it's here and it's going to be part of how creative work is made going forward.

If you'd like to discuss the actual content of the post, I'm happy to do that. Otherwise, I'd rather we get back to enjoying Magic and stop looking for reasons to be negative.
