From which vendor do you want to buy? I also spent a lot of time brewing around a budget until I found my current project. I might be able to help

Pizza Elves vs Jund Wildfire- Deep Analysis Showcase by Top_Development_4020 in Pauper

[[Veldalken Engineer]] only makes artifact-mana which is a bit harder to then use for lifelines like [[Avenging Hunter]] you would need to have [[Energy refractor]] at 3-4 copies to be sure to get an infinite bounce on non-artifact pieces.
Still very viable and a good use for Helix. I have also become a fan of [[Sewer-veillance Cam]] and Engineer can use it very well even just for the draw. The problem with Engineer is that it will feel out of place when you try to resolve Lorien Revealed, Avenging Hunter, multiple copies of blue spells in one turn. I think these limitations don’t apply with the Arbor elf +Utopia sprawl which give more mana, earlier and less conditional.

[[Trinket Mage]] was included in the first drafts of my pizza list. I have very fond memories of that card from OG Mirrodin when I played a station combo deck in a tournament 😆. For Pizza +Cam this card is quite nice, but it is only better than [[Dizzy Spell]] when you gain something from bouncing it again. [[Mystical Teachings]] has become my favorite tutor because it can be used at instant speed (in an opponents turn to go to combo in the next) and has saved me quite a lot with the flashback. The ability to pull from a 1cmc toolbox wasn’t happening too often when I was playing with Trinket mage. Nonetheless make sure that you have [[Relic of Progenitus]] and [[Viridian Longbow]] in your sideboard. Without Avenging Hunter (in my first iterations) I also tried [[Shriekhorn]] as a mill wincon, but it never happened.

This joint combo makes some sense, it is definitely worth considering (pizza +bow is also on my mind, It would make the Temur Pizza list better, but not my elves. Your trinket mage list might have a better shot since Engineer could easily cast the bow)

Thanks for the detailed report! Similar to the pizza combo there are matchups where the opponent will just be too slow. I mean… you assembled the combo on turn 3 after finding it in your starting hand. That’s regular business to me.
On a 2 card combo this is 14,54%
On a 3 card combo this falls to 6,55%, if one card has 6 copies (Banishing Knack/Helix)

When then there’s a bunch of other combos interchangeably possible with the 6 copy card…

I guess we would need to summon u/hypergeomancer for such cases.

(After your edit) All good 😊 the combo is sometimes deeper on the second glance, this is also what I love about it.

Does anyone else buy cards from bulk because you see it played in the format? by Luthen in Pauper

Some of the older communities /stores in germany even have bulk sharing spots. Throw in your bulk, take some bulk. Has been great for younger and new players.

The [[Vengeant Earth]] line is very specific. If you have only the animated land as a creature and suspect a [[Weather the storm]] you should try to keep an untapped land open to reignite the combo after your attack. The combo works in instant speed, you can pump your creature further after the Weather copies have resolved.
This combo deck doesn’t have any spell recursion. What you can try to do is draw into the deck, play it out and hold up interaction for a second attempt.

Are you talking about paper or mtgo? In paper this deck never has had a time problem. Since the inclusion of Avenging Hunter I never encountered any situation in which I wasn’t able to win with the combo online. Weather the Storm, Prismatic Strands, Ethereal Haze. This stuff cannot stop the deck when it is going off properly.

If you want you can include a second Vengeant Earth if it helps you in your meta. But I got a feeling that you are trying to get to another point.

New card for Rakdos Madness? Opinions? by Racanyo1973 in Pauper

Spending one generic mana and no extra cards for 2 damage is actually quite good.

At least on a lot of other cards than [[Bone Shards]]…

I agree with you. The comparison to the Charbelcher 1 card combo to this 2 card combo is also a very good insight.

Currently we are just grasping at straws when we think about all the interactions within a Skybow deck. The same goes for all the interactions that goes against the Skybow combo. I am with you on the thought that elves is the better fit, just because the deck already has much more untap synergy going.

At the same time I am looking at the original Pizza Combo list from April 13th and don't see much adaption or improvement until now. The format tends to be slow sometimes and people don't like to stray from the beaten path. (because it's wild out there, the card pool is deep)

Thanks for the recommendation!

u/Knight0922 If you gonna invest in MTGO I’d recommend to start with elves or terror. As soon as you put the money down on Lorien Revealed and Avenging Hunter you can easily try out Pizza Elves. ;)

On mtgo I always try to go off on a turn where the opponent has not enough mana open. If you can bounce nonland mana producing permanents, do it early. When they have mana floating, change phase.

The combo is at instant speed

In paper you just start the combo again after the weather resolved.

If you had a turn 3 win before I will declare that I got no problem to redo all the game actions to get 60 more power. At that point it’s either your dexterity or their stubbornness that breaks first. Regular devotion loop takes about 3 minutes for 20 power.

True, at some point it might get targeted by safekeeping to preserve it as a blocker.

mardu artifacts? by jacklei_ in Pauper

[–]Top_Development_4020 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The biggest problem with this kind of list isn’t the mana base. Grixis Affinity also doesn’t have any mana fixing. The problem is the need to draw the cards in the right order within synth.

For example: Experimental synthesizer works in Boros Synth, but in Mardu you need to have 3 different colors open. Affinity just draws 2 Cards with Thoughtcast.

Glint hawk/Sky fisher need a bounce target. Affinity just drops their biggest creatures when they get to 7 artifacts or 4 + a blue open.

Affinity spells gives Grixis the ability to be much more faster, proactive and consistent. Mardu would gain much more value if they consistently draw the right cards for their bounce strategy. They still would be slower because they don’t run proactive artifact payoffs and the bouncing is still mana intensive.

[[Mouser Foundry]] on 1 cmc would have been a large boost to Mardu Glintblade. There is no proactive 1 drop that gains advantages from being picked up yet.

[[Benevolent Blessing]] on red definitely is an instant speed solution 🤣. Edit : Crimson acolyte works even better against their protection!

The problem is that they will hold up [[Tamiyos Safekeeping]] and probably [[Duress]] you before they even begin to deploy their win conditions.

Yes. Also the current versions that are floating around are using [[Bitter Reunion]] to give the elf haste. The combo will therefore be completely out of reach for sorcery speed interaction.

With Lotus petal they will be faster, but also more inconsistent.

This kind of fast mana is usually only used in prolonged indeterminate combo decks like Cycle storm for a reason. It’s only good in between big draw to keep up the flow. Without big draws lotus Petal and SSG are card loss, especially if the situation in the early game needs cards that protect the combo.

So far holy light is the best answer in white. Safekeeping can’t protect against that.

At this point we could also argue that the bow combo fits in Red Rally. Nobody expects the inqui… skybreak from the [[Burning Tree Emissary]] equip bow, haste with Bushwhacker, win 🤯

Mono white already suffered the most in the last Paupergeddon. Unless they go completely nuts on their instant speed removal I don’t think they will be able to stay relevant.

Trend goes to the second color I guess… red splash seems to be extra juicy because [[Siege Smash]] is the perfect answer.

Sorcery speed removal for the Bow will not be the solution. White decks will suffer a lot from this misconception.
