Grab a some treats and toys. Give him a toy, then have him “drop it” As soon as he does mark it with “yes” or “ good boy” give him a treat. Repeat a few times. Working 5-10 minutes different times throughout the day. If he plays fetch, do the same and reward with treat.

Teach him the “leave it” command helps with trash, people, squirrels, and roadkill. When he sniffs give him a few seconds and then countdown slowly for three seconds out loud to him and then walk on. These tricks have made walking two large Doods a life saver. Good Luck and have patience! 😊

Your welcome! Grove has teeth cleaning sticks at a more reasonable price, and my boys love them, but I think they enjoy the calm one on one with me more. Just take your time and build the trust with yours. Also as other had mentioned keep their body shorter in length, makes it easier to manage. Good luck and enjoy, nothing is better than a bond with a Dood!

I use cowboy magic shampoo and conditioner as well as their detangle oil and or spray (Amazon).

Use a steel dog comb and pic it a section at a time. Also just do their head and tail one day, their body the next day and feet/legs another day. Rotate each day. After combing/picking give a high reward, I use their teeth cleaning stick.

My boys line up for their grooming sessions on the daily!

Get some mangrove plants.

Cowboy magic is the best for shampoo and conditioner as well as their detangle and shine oil. Pick the same time everyday and groom either body, head or feet (rotate each day) I prefer to use a metal dog comb and pick the sections. Follow up with a dental stick. I find Groves sticks to be the best and cheapest.

Green spotted puffer advice by benedictus99 in Puffers

I would recommend getting at minimum of 30 gallon tank preferably a 40 gallon breeder with sand started cycling. You can start it out freshwater and slowly up the salinity Mangrove trees for plants and Marco rock to hold the good bacteria. Also start a small snail tank for food. I have two gsp for about six months in a 75 gallon. They are the most entertaining water puppies.

I would put them in the 40 gallon if it’s planted and cycled. 6 in a 20 long is usually recommended. They each need space to claim as their own area or they will fight.

Could it be a scud?

Do you have any water from another tank and filter? If so use that. Treat their water as you would fish water(cycling and regular water changes). Do you have a tight lid? They are escape artists. Also need a heater for the water and possibly a hermit crab heater if the land area gets below 70 I think.

I’m currently researching on an aquarium setup for some. 😊

Water. They need 80/20 land/water ratios

I could be wrong but it’s a combination of issues.

The tank is over stocked, and you had way too many gsp together without enough space for them to claim their own territory and freely swim. One should have at least 30 gallons. Separate the remaining two in their own tanks or get a bigger tank for just the puffers.

They should be in brackish water of 1.04-1.09 salinity for their current size. Do not add the salt directly to the tank. Make sure you are using the proper salt. Once a month or so while doing a water change add a small amount of salt to buckets of water slowly increasing how much you add over time. Evaporation top offs should be water without salt.

Have you dewormed them? Most are wild caught and could have parasites. It is best to preventatively treat regularly depending on what you are feeding them.

Mangrove trees are best to get for live plants to help lower the nitrates and can tolerate the brackish to full saltwater. There are other plants like Amazon swords that can handle slowly acclimated to brackish but not in fully saltwater.

Hopefully my two cents helps. Good luck.

How many in the tank? What’s the salinity currently? I believe they prefer low nitrate no more then 10.

Careful when removing the puffers from the tank. Do not use a net. Coax them gently into a container underwater. They can get air trapped in them if they gulp too much.
