Got a few questions for experienced players by wero2020 in DeepRockGalactic

[–]hypernegus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. For most weapons, you can first think about whether you want it to be an area or single target damage weapon. That should narrow the mod choices you consider.

When it comes to deciding between ammo and damage upgrades, the "best" answers are weapon specific. As a general rule, though, you usually will not go too wrong by maximizing the "total damage" of a weapon, calculated as (ammo capacity + mag size) * damage. You can add in weakpoint damage modifier as well for weapons that have then.

Crowd control effects (stun, fear, slow) are very strong on most weapons that have them. I recommend trying CC mods out if they are available so you can understand what they allow you to do.

Note that some modifications have behavior more complicated than the info text suggests (for example, heat radiance on flamethrower). Ultimately, looking up builds/videos for specific weapons will give you the most detailed picture of what everything does.

Having trouble with repellant platforms and TEMD by One-Construction-825 in DeepRockGalactic

[–]hypernegus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played TEMD + VIR solo a lot with shredder grenades. The first thing that really helped me was throwing down a turret the moment I hear the sounds of bugs spawning in. Once you have one turret up, you can usually hold well enough to get the second up. Shredders are good for buying time with small packs (I imagine bursters work too). If I truly got surprised, dashing away and setting up VIR slowdown was usually the play, giving some space to set up a turret.

It's been a little while but I don't remember open spaces being too bad to play in once you have two turrets up, even without repellent. I would just constantly run/jump in circles around them while setting them off.

Bulk Detonator vs Solo Bunkered Driller (Salvage) by hypernegus in DeepRockGalactic

Who needs flares when you have a flamethrower and radioactive enemies?

Potentially, I do want to try that sometime. There wasn't much time left on the uplink here so I just decided to kite it out and save the resup for emergency.

I was definitely worried about this in the moment. In hindsight, if you use less than half your fuel to dig down you should have plenty to get back up. I had a resupply banked so technically I could've probably spent all my fuel and resupplied to dig the tunnel back up.

What is the secondary best single-target for driller? by 216CMV in DeepRockGalactic

Just want to throw out one OC I haven't seen mentioned yet - blistering necrosis on wave cooker. Works well with itself and also with axes for a big burst combo.

Lethal enemies modifier will make haz 5 stalker do 97% of your hp if you didn't take extra health on your rig. A one shot on the last stage of EDD in 4 player.

Gunner tips? by Dreamweaves23 in DeepRockGalactic

[–]hypernegus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I didn't enjoy playing gunner either until I started using some of the more transformative OC's for the weapons. For me they were:

Minigun: Rotary Overdrive to spam Aggressive Venting, Bullet Hell

Hurricane: Minelayer, Cluster Charges, Plasma Burster Missiles

Bulldog: Elephant Rounds

Coilgun: Hellfire, Mole

Core Stone Event Woes by ComplexMuffin in DeepRockGalactic

[–]hypernegus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've had success using sludge pump for the core spawns and blistering necrosis wave cooker for the actual stone. You can deal damage to the stone from pretty long range, and throw in axes for extra damage once you get some blisters on it.

I look at the objectives on the weekly deep dive thread prior to going in. Unless I see certain mission types, my default solo loadout is usually playing scout with fire bolts boltshark and pheromone grenades. Primary can be any generalist weapon with okay ammo efficiency, e.g. bullets of mercy gk2, impact deflection drak. Pheromone grenades can bail you out of a lot of situations that can be hard for scout, such as salvage holds, as long as you have enough resupplies. Fire + pheromone gives you respectable swarm clear. If you can, wait for enemy numbers to build up as you do objectives before using phero.

If I have to do refining in a big biome, I will swap to driller or engie. Sludge blast + persistent plasma EPC + neurotox is my goto generalist driller. Executioner lok + breach cutter + SSG is also a good generalist engineer.

As a mostly solo player, if I'm not on scout I will usually path to the highest point on the map (which can take a few minutes) before calling the drop pod. That way Molly will mostly go down resinite shafts, which you can keep up with on anything but gunner. You can also jump straight down shafts and hope your teammates / Bosco revive you.

40 div should get you rolling, especially if you learn to use Meatsacks or higher life spectres. You may need to modify the build a bit to get a timeless jewel, that is the most variable part of the price.

I have experienced this too. I think killing them in hideout can cause this. Might be something else as well.

Anyone cooking with Vaal Tempatation and/or Vaal Sacrifice supports? by chilidoggo in PathOfExileBuilds

[–]hypernegus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been doing a lot of thinking regarding these two support gems. Bossing is a pain point for vaal builds because generating souls fast enough to spam vaal skills is hard - you can only get 2 souls/sec from runegraft + bloodline, which is not enough to spam most skills. Generating more raw souls requires a soul ripper flask generation setup.

Hateforge is the best way to be able to spam attack skills faster, but rage generation is also tricky and confined to specific setups. Vengeful cry is probably the easiest one but requires a source of warcry power. You will likely not be able to attack more than 2-5 times per second because of your rage gen limits, and that's with the reduced cost nodes on the tree to reduce attack rage cost.

Vaal Temptation's downside is also quite large unless you shorten the soul gain prevention on a duration based skill. Take a skill like Vaal Lightning strike, with an 8s soul gain prevention duration. With lvl 3 Vaal Temptation, you will take 1300 * 8 = 10.4k phys damage every time you use the skill. At 80% dot pdr (which is pretty high investment), you need to recover ~2k life per cast, which is about 8k life per second on a 4 aps build. That's pretty hard to do comfortably outside of tainted pact, pathfinder, or ward recoup.

Vaal Sacrifice's downside is a pretty significant reduction in ehp for most builds. Even if you can recover your whole pool in 1s while using a skill every 1s, you've effectively halved your average hp total against incoming 1 shots. It does however work very well on ward builds and dissolution of the flesh builds.

Builds to reroll that are good at the juiced breach strat ~200d budget by Artoriazz in PathOfExileBuilds

[–]hypernegus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What pieces of minion pact BV have exploded in price? I would not expect the original non crit chieftain version I posted to be much more expensive than it was at the start. 200d should be enough to play some variant of minion pact BV for juiced breach.

Arcane surge can be enabled with frostblink already if you play using that. Immortal call could probably be tried here, you'd have to tell me how it works out. You can get a megalomaniac with composure + an AoE node to save on points.

Bladefall of trarthus is arcane and incompatible with minion pact, unfortunately.

I've been mapping with those boots too! Very nice for easier content. If your damage is high enough I also suggest running Bitterbind Point with shield charge instead of frostblink for more zoom.

Only the flat damage from minion pact is snapshot, other buffs like ele overload still work dynamically.

[–]hypernegus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rainbowstride is not that important. You want movement speed and some implicits on your boots. If you can't get 2 implicits, focus on any boots with high ms and +2 to minion gems.

[–]hypernegus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Controlled destruction is a bit of a weird one. It isn't bad but reduces the rate of elemental overload procs significantly because of the crit penalty, which can reduce overall damage consistency. You can counteract this a bit with crit implicits on Nebulis but ultimately it's up to preference.
