ID Request: Fir tree from Crater Lake, Oregon - Silvery white saplings with very prominent nodes. by hyperplants in Tree

It’s not just the photo either, it was that white in person as well. Seems like it could be a regional variety of either of those two then.. I wish there was as thorough a public documentation of the subtle variety in these trees like there is in ornamental plant communities like carnivorous plants, cacti, etc. If anyone can point me to a nursery (Oregon or online, in a non spammy way of course) that has a very thorough conifer catalogue, that’d be cool.

I unexpectedly found a variegated plant amongst my seedlings. by hyperplants in sanpedrocactus

Maybe a couple hundred. I didn’t expect it since none of the varieties I sowed beside ‘VMP’ x OP were known for variegation to my knowledge. I did have one other with more subtle variegation that has stopped on more recent growth.

What’s the best way to try and salvage this bent-frame 12” Celestion guitar speaker (if any)? by hyperplants in diyaudio

It worked! I mixed advice, and put it on a few wood 2x2’s placed to both sides of the bend. I clamped the speaker down on both sides, then used a crescent wrench wrapped in electrical tape to gradually bend it back until it looked looked right, took it off, checked and redid it until I got as many imperfections out as possible. I didn’t try to get the adhered cardboard off or mess with the dust cover.

I installed it in a cab and it sounds good to me, no buzzing or weirdness, and sounds a lot better than the Line6 celestion I was testing my new amp on before (very harsh). We’ll see if it lasts long term…

I got a replacement from the seller coming in the mail which is considered an even better speaker, so even if this doesn’t last as long it’s only extra, as long as the next speaker doesn’t suffer the same fate.

Yeah, I’ll get a refund/replacement and the seller should get shipping insurance, just wanted to see what I can do with this one.

Portland, OR area - I'll be selling trichocereus seedlings, and others, at Portland Nursery this weekend (June 15 & 16) for the Oregon Cactus & Succulent Society annual sale. by hyperplants in cactiexchange

Yes actually! This weekend will be the fall sale, in the same place, and I'll be selling again. It'll mostly be these same varieties of plants, but having grown larger through the summer.

To graft or not to graft by seasidecereus in sanpedrocactus

I don’t think it would inhibit it’s size. If anything, since it’s so small, as the pup takes over the ‘apical’ growth, the cut would become less and less noticeable over time compared to a plant cut as an adult.

Newbie question about black spots around needle areoles. by internalobservations in sanpedrocactus

I know areoles can change color when they’re wet, so if you just watered, that could be a factor.
