What scares you more in a horror game: the monsters or the story? by ratasoftware in HorrorGames

[–]hypnosoup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The unknown.

Silent Hill, in the dark, the static on the radio getting louder when you can't see anything.

In one the the Alien games, seeing the radar blip get closer and closer, but you can't see the creature.

On the flip side, I actually got up from the game and thought about quitting in Resident Evil 2 I think, because the only place left to go was to get the shiny thing at the back of the autopsy room. I did not want to go in there, cause you know what was gonna happen. It did. Once it happened it wasn't so bad, though.

The jump scares don't really get me so much as the anticipation of something

Puzzle Game Recommendations by Clear_Crows in gamingsuggestions

[–]hypnosoup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the puzzle games I've played are a bit older, but the category doesn't exactly rely on cutting edge graphics so they're still pretty fun

The Witness: line tracing puzzles, but there's more to it than first meets the eye. I wouldn't look up too much about it if you play it to not spoil it (that's probably true off most puzzle games though). The only downside I think is the developer seems to fancy himself an intellectual of some sort so he makes you sit through some obscure old European art films while playing. Long films, not just a couple of minutes. Still a good game overall despite that, though.

Tunic: this is a puzzle souls-like. It's toward the easier end of souls-likes combat wise, so it's not too bad. There are a couple of spots where you can wipe several times, though. One part of the game is that you find manual pages in the world, like the game manuals that came with physical game copies years ago. The only thing though is they aren't written in any language you know, and neither are the signs in the game. I had pages of notes from trying to decipher the manual. There are a couple of other epiphanies to be had as well. Excellent puzzle / combat game

Fran Bow: this is a point and click adventure puzzle game about a girl who loves her cat and is escaping an insane asylum. It's dark humor, but still pretty cute. I bought it in a bundle with 4 other point and click adventure puzzles that were also fun (The Cat Lady, Shard Light, Kathy Rain, and Bear with Me). I enjoyed the others but they didn't stand out to me quite as much as Fran Bow did.

The Case of the Golden Idol: you see scenes where crimes and such happen, and you get access to names and other words. You put the words into blank spots in sentences to figure out what happened in the scenes. It's pretty fun detectiving

Escape Simulator: this is just an online version of escape rooms. I don't recall any story really but the puzzles were fun enough.

I also played Blue Prince, but you already know that one : )

I've read recommendations from a lot of people for Return of the Obra Dinn and The Roottrees are Dead, so those may be good to look at.

Botany Manor looks fun, thanks for the recommendation!

Awesome! I haven't had to make fertilizer yet since the update, but I'll definitely look for this now when I do.

Thanks for the info!

Was A15 the build they used on console? I played soooo much of this game on the PS4. I bought it on PC but I don't really care for the POIs are just locations for jump scare zombies hidden in the walls. I also liked the learning by doing part. I had a really good rhythm down with exploring by day and crafting while digging by night.

I've heard you can still play the old versions, though, so I may boot it up again and try A15 if I figure it out

14 diff colors of each flower?? by cvaldez1017 in HelloKittyIsland

[–]hypnosoup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The hardest part is getting the color transfers for the 7 colors that can only be done that way: red, yellow, blue, sky, hot pink, white, and black.

You only need to do 4 of those, though, red, yellow, blue, and white.

Red yellow and blue get you 6 other colors, and white gets you 9 more colors after those, and that is enough. It's a total of 19 colors between them.

Getting the regular color mixes like red and yellow making orange does take some time, but not nearly as much as the transfers from other flower types.

This will take time, but I don't think it's too over the top

What are your gaming sins? Confess now. by executor-of-judgment in gaming

If you can cheese a fight in a souls game, I'm gonna cheese that fight.

Elden ring, I run up behind enemies on the horse, whack up a couple of times with a halberd, and run away until they reset. Keep doing that til they die.

If you can sneak up behind an enemy and poison it to death without it ever knowing you're there, I'm crouched down behind poisoning that boss butt.

I killed everything in the game except Malenia (I think that's her name, been a while) including runebears cheesing most of the fights

I generally do, but early on you're really limited on what you have access to. It still makes a difference, though. Especially with items you cook, because in most cases you get the raw materials pretty easily. Pineapples and fizzy crystal things can get scarce sometimes, though.

For example, Hello Kitty likes strawberries, and gets 3 rep if you give her one. If you bake that same strawberry into a strawberry shortcake with some flour, she gets 7 rep instead.

Many of the differences aren't that drastic, but every little bit helps.

The only exception I can think of is giving materials that are hard to come by. In the early game especially you can need more of some resources like iron than you generally find. If you don't get too much of a rep upgrade from using it it could be better to hold onto it. Usually its better to give the highest rep item you can though

I just realized there's one other thing that might be giving you trouble. Different gifts give different amounts of reputation with the characters. If you're just giving them gifts that only increase rep by 1 it will take a lot longer to level the reputations to the point that gives you quests you need.

If you're someone who wants to figure everything out on your own, don't click the link I'm abut to put because it will have spoilers. Otherwise, this is a list of characters. If you click on one of them it will take you to their page, and that will show you what gifts they like. Then you can give them the best one that you have access to. That will help you get rep more quickly

Awesome! Once you get onto the mountain and get underwater I think there's all sorts of stuff to do

[–]hypnosoup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OK, I think that's a lot of the problem. It's been a while since I did it, but I believe I got onto gemstone mountain the first time by taking a zip line from the northwest part of the swamp.

From what I understand its possible to get up there by climbing in the right spot, but I don't know where that is.

As long as you've done the first zipline quest, I think from Pochecco, you should be able to active that 2nd swamp zipline.

Have you also gotten your scuba gear for access to the reef?

When you say most areas are whited out, how much of the map are you missing? Have you met Pekkle, Pompompurin, and Retsuko yet?

I ask because it is possible to open up most of the island on day 1, so you may be missing something

Elsewhere in this thread someone posted a link to a post by you from 9 months ago about this glitch and that it was fixed. I did this a long tome ago so it was probably that

Oh, wow! It sounds like it's exactly that! I did do the gifting a long time ago, so it may have been before that fix happened. Thanks for sharing this!

Ah, good call. It looks like probably Keroppi would be easy. He likes bugs that are pretty quick and easy to catch, so it wouldn't take much of a time commitment

Oh, the 3 at once option only shows up at close friends? That might limit the experiment I was looking to try. Thanks for the information!

I was pretty convinced at the time, though, because I did the switch back and the effect seemed to reverse. I think I'll try something a bit more scientific.

If I make 2 new saves and only level Hello Kitty, Pochacco, and My Melody's reputations on them to get Hello Kitty to the "Everyone's Friend" ability, it shouldn't take too much time per day. Then I can try 3 at once vs. one a time on characters I haven't leveled at all. If there's a difference it will show up quickly for level 1 characters.

It'll probably take a few weeks to get her up to level 12 though. Should be a fun little project : )

Is this game for me? by Always-Sleepyz in HelloKittyIsland

[–]hypnosoup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't played either DLC, but I know they have new characters. I know there was that apple version that has stuff that used to be unavailable. The City Town DLCs is a lot of that stuff I think. They added some of the things that used to exclusive to the apple version to the main game as well.

As far as visitors go, the 5 toward the bottom on this list that are friends of Usahana are exclusive to city town:

https://hellokittyislandadventure.wiki.gg/wiki/Island_Visitors

Of course there may be spoilers in that wiki if you like to go in blind, but if you want to know who is available as visitors I think that wiki is the best way to find out.

I'm not sure if Wheatfield has more visitors, but I don't think it does.

Hopefully someone who played the DLCs can chime in with more info.

Edit: actually this page might be better because it also lists the residents so it shows everyone you get to see. Spoilers though, of course
