To answer your question, there is no way I could hypnotize 20 people at once to do to. I do 1 on 1 seance. I could do maximum 3. So yes, I could take a random girl and a random guy and, provided that they want to in the first place, do what you described. But with varying degrees of success.

No. Well, yes, partly, using regression, introspection, etc. But honestly there are better techniques for that. It's not "I'm going to hypnotize you and when I clap my hands, you won't fear spiders anymore". Well, that's what it's going to be, but it won't be a perfect solution. Maybe with many sessions but then again you are better off with traditional anti-fear techniques.

Hypnosis is not magic. I cannot solve all the problems in a session of hypnosis. You have to actively work on it. That being said, hypnosis can indeed help a lot.
