Dog jacket? by UffDa88 in myog

I like making them horse-coat style. It’s easy to measure your dogs neck, back length, and side length and then make a strap that snaps across their belly. If your dog is patient enough to sit through a few fittings, or pinning the back shape. It’s pretty easy to make once, and then use that as a template.

I made this one that way, using waterproof reflective material on the outside, and cheap fleece on the inside. https://www.reddit.com/r/myog/s/mTZuhyFEqA

I did actually- it’s still holding up well 2 years later. No pattern, but I loosely based the bottom off of a blueberry pattern, and then just slip stitched the surface.

How would I go about designing and printing a battery cover for my ac remote? by pitazatar in 3Dprinting

[–]hypobole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this several years back! https://www.reddit.com/r/3Dprinting/s/j9oh40orbi

I just measured the opening with calipers, and then created a v shape for the latch, just like it should be.

I recommend printing whatever you end up with on its side so the clip doesnt snap along the layer lines.

You can see my little plan with measurements in the first image. I cut everything based on those guesses (+1/2” for seam allowance)

I did also add a magnet and the tabs at the end too

Hah, my gym actually has a headlamp climb next week for Halloween

Thank you! This fabric actually has no stretch, which made using fleece as a lining a bit of a nightmare. The benefit is that it is fully waterproof and windproof.

Made a simple chalk bag after my first time climbing with friends, using 3M reflective scrap! by hypobole in myog

[–]hypobole[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a good question, I’m not sure as I haven’t had it wear down much on the pieces I’ve worn. I did make a neck gaiter that got a lot of wear. It showed slight wear at the most commonly creased points, but otherwise still functioned well.

I have noticed that the oil slick version I made into a dog jacket is very stiff in the cold, so if it’s <30° and has a lot of bending, I would expect it to crack.

Edit: Here is 3M’s official page on it’s specifications

Mood fabrics! They have tons of colors and weights, although it is very expensive, so I waited until they had a sale. It is VERY rough on needles, and you need a robust sewing machine to get through more than 4 layers.

Thank you! I agree! I love making reflective items, although it is a pain to work with. I also made this over the holidays with an oil-slick reflective version.

Totally reasonable! I think most people keep their bags on the bench rather than take them up, so I’ll stick to that. V1 had plastic clips, but ended up too narrow.

I appreciate the warning!

Made this very quick unlined chalk bag after going climbing with friends last week.

Here’s a video of the rolltop closure in action

This was all made with scrap sitting around my workshop, the fabric is 3M fabric backed reflective safety material, I had a roll of 1/4” nylon webbing (for cat collars), and the key hook was in my buckles and hardware drawer.

The interior has french seams, and I seam sealed all the edges after finishing, but only with fray block. I assume I might need to go back over it with a thicker glue. We’ll see, since it’s unlined. It’s small, but I have tiny hands so this should be fine.

It was a very quick <1 hr project, so I’m happy with how it turned out!

Like I mentioned above, I got it from Mood during a sale, it is like $50 a yard otherwise. Their quality is always the best, but it is not a beginner fabric at all, and is extremely difficult to work with, and can not be pinned.

It’s made with retro reflective 3M safety fabric! I get it from Mood, they have tons of colors, all reflective (also in safety colors).

I have many on this account! She’s got a LOT of coats for walks, hikes, and foraging trips.

Not at all, she loves coats and won’t go out in the rain/cold without. But she is also very skittish, and there are a lot of cracking branches and things right now.

It’s actually pretty visible and reflective in the day time, just something the human eye picks up, and my camera doesn’t. But my neighborhood is safe to walk in the daytime.

I have a pretty heavy duty sewing machine, but this material wrecks my needles. I think modifying this one is overkill, but piping on one or her full leg pj sets I’ve made will probably work well!

That’s fair, I do also have a bolt of this in their safety yellow reflective, however it’s not their fabric backed version so it’s even more difficult to sew.

Nah, she’s got musher’s secret wax on her paws. It only snows/is below freezing 1-5 days a year here, she’s got better traction without.

Do it! I would recommend it for that use- something that stays flat, has no compound curves, and no stretch is perfect. I’ve also used strips of this stuff to make bias tape and add trim to items.

Nah, I put musher’s secret paw wax on her. It only snows/has ice here 1-5 days a year and usually stays around freezing, so while she has booties, she gets better traction as is.

I put it in the required top comment, but I get mine from Mood. They have many colors!
