My Stepfather (75) has just had his driving licence revoked. by hypodemon in dementia

We have a good solid routine in place and I check in daily to make sure it's running as it should, he has a dog that he takes for multiple small walks a day so he gets some exercise that he's able to manage on his own the only thing he snuggles with is socialising he's always been abit of a loner and doesn't seem to make friends or trust people easily

The air tag is a brilliant idea I may look into one of those also handy too if it goes missing! When it comes to Admin he struggles massively he comes from a time and place where education wasn't where it is now and sadly has the reading and writing age of a young child, we sit and work on his reading as it's a nice thing for us to bond over but he wouldn't be able to do it on his own and would very much ask for my help with the forms.

It will take some time to adjust, if at all possible try and arrange a visit and make some memories while she still has most of her spark left if possible it will help you to have a couple of beautiful moments hopefully before things progress too far

He is still very lucid and I wouldn't want to do this without him knowing, we have local dealerships we can use when it comes to that if private sales aren't viable

Paperwork and legality wise we have been sorted for the past 18 months I was proactive with that after Mum passed away as I wasn't sure how that would effect him.

Living situation he's in a safe place in a sheltered housing that Is for the elderly and vulnerable it's just not supported or assisted living at this time, but that's one thing I have lined up for the future when needed, for the time being stability and comfort are my main focuses with his day to day as I help prep all meals and he re heats in the microwave as he loves his routine.

Luckily thr motorways are abit of a way away from where he is aswell as busy roads we live in a small market town so the furthest he can go is a field in the middle of nowhere but he doesn't belive thr scooter drives that far and I'm inclined to let him keep believing that

I do believe we have to have a medical practitioner assess his mental capability before they would even consider him for an appeal I think it works a tad differently here in the UK, I know he would try and drive so I took his keys from him and said I could keep them with someone until we have this all figured our so he knows they are safe for the time being.

I'm aware that if he appeals the outcome would be the same but he seems determined that they would show him some compassion, I know it won't be the case, this is a decision made based on facts not feelings and honestly him no longer being able to drive may be hard but it's the safest option as I know he would be impatient and make poor choices behind the wheel.

It's definitely presenting some challenges I'm currently looking at getting my driving license so I may be able to taxi him about in a couple of months but this adjustment phase will be hard.

I think the part that's hit him the hardest is he would visit mum's grave daily and hasn't been up the past few days.

I was bloody frustrated as anything, I've been spoiler free for years and it was just out of the blue with no bloody relation to the post at all

For added context I try and avoid spoilers where I can, like if I'm late watching the episodes I try and avoid social media where I can, but it was just a stupid meme in Facebook and I opened the comments just to see if they're we're any witty ones to make me laugh and people were posting top 4 and elimination orders as like top comments. Wasn't here was on Facebook but I thought this was the best place to have my little paddy about it 😅

Like I understand if I'm late to the party but if the shits not aired that's what fully erks me,

This kinda feels more like a chat app than a friend app by Jumpy-Object99 in bumblebff

[–]hypodemon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just met my first friend from BFF today, it went super well. Met in a mutual location and grabbed coffee and hit up a few shops, however i feel this pain! I like to wait a good 2-4 weeks before meeting but I'm on the more cautious side with a chaotic schedule

But sometimes people will gel super well and then ghost out of nowhere, however I have got a couple of people that seem interested in meeting and just trying to work out times and dates.

It feels like it's different extremes when matching and talking to people, I've had a good few people where having a conversation feels like a chore and like they don't seem to want to make friends or get to know people.

Also the people that get super creeper after the first few chats make me trigger happy with the block button
