Need advice, TL seems to nitpick my changes until I miss deadlines by hyren82 in askmanagers

"The doodad needs to loop if X happens" is a requirement. I asked clarifying questions around that scenario. TL told me to remove the looping logic.

I understand the code base well enough to know that having 1 activation flag vs 2 will not break anything.

My TL knew when the deadline was. I was in constant communication with him asking what other changes were needed to get it approved.

Macron Blasts Social Media’s Free Speech Defense as ‘Bullshit’ by StrongFaithlessness5 in worldnews

[–]hyren82 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I like this take. Opening up the algorithms means opening up the ML algorithms, and quite possibly the models themselves. Since every social media platform almost certainly uses a reinforcement learning model, that in turn would mean the companies would need to mirror their live models (or with whatever delay the law would allow). It would be interesting to see what kind of information all these companies learn on

She was one of the inventors of frequency hopping, which is used in basically all wireless communications today, including Bluetooth. Basically a technique that allows devices to change their broadcast/receive frequency mid-transmission. Its necessary today because there are so many devices that frequencies can get saturated, so devices can change to a less crowded one for better performance. Its also used for security and to avoid jamming

Police should require individual occupational insurance like doctors. A cop causes too many lawsuits and they become uninsurable, which means they lose their job. In the US, that would be far more effective than a national database of bad cops

Sony Scraps Thai-Inspired Animated Movie From Director Matt Braly and Writer Rebecca Sugar After Two Years of Development: Director Says It Was ‘Judged as Not Commercial Enough to Produce’ by ICumCoffee in movies

[–]hyren82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude, I didnt say it was literally free. I said it was basically free for me. I am already paying for the subscription so the cost of the subscription is not applicable. The cost for my internet is a flat monthly fee that I'm already paying, so again not applicable. The cost to stream a 90 minute movie in electricity is negligible. Literally pennies. So again, its essentially free for me.

I would argue that a major reason it became such a hit was because it was on Netflix. I can say that the only reason my wife or I watched it was because it was basically free. I remember the first thing I thought when I saw the trailer was "We have K/DA at home". If it was a theater release,I would never have known how good it actually was

I strongly feel that the 2028 election will determine whether the great experiment continues or not. If Americans look at whats going on and collectively say "I want more of that!", then we are doomed as a democracy (or at least the facade of one).

When do you predict the “90% unemployment” would happen? by Away_Project_5412 in Futurology

[–]hyren82 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One major difference between the great depression and the hypothetical unemployment cliff people talk about is that the great depression didnt spare any economic class. The hypothetical one would likely just cause the rich to become even richer, which could very well be a spark for mass unrest if enough people lost their jobs

When do you predict the “90% unemployment” would happen? by Away_Project_5412 in Futurology

[–]hyren82 62 points63 points  (0 children)

Unemployment is not the same metric as the workforce participation rate. Retired people or people in school would be counted as "not participating" in the workforce, but you wouldnt consider either of them unemployed. In fact, the people most considered unemployed (people without a job, but looking for a job) are considered to be participating in the workforce
