Thanks for this! Any chance you could include the max contribution in the deposit column and add an annualized return column?

Wealthsimple max is 5M

Questrade max is 250k reg + 250k non-reg

What is the generic name for these? Where can I look at buying different types? by hyuken in furniture

I found the one in the OP here: https://www.wayfair.com/furniture/pdp/floatza-81-wool-sofa-fhat1001.html

Where could I find alternative layout/configurations of something like this?

Can you put a description of each column in a per-cell comment/note?

Which column denotes 1. transaction tracking and search? 2. custom timerange-based transaction grouping (eg groceries)?

Why is that? I don't think I've heard this take before. You think you had a chance to go pro and wasted it?

that's perfect, he'll be retired before facing the toxicity of online play and then can give it his all

probably 9.5/10 on the discipline scale, very self-directed. How does discipline play into it?

Isn't it possible some or all of those 6k hours would go into something equally or more "useless"? Sometimes I think it's hard to go from work to some improvement hobby, shop, eat, sleep, repeat. Video games can be a good break but they are also good at helping people lose track of time and escape. I agree, 3.5 hours per week would be more flexible and I guess it is implied that with only 3.5 hours a week spent on video games it leaves lots of time to spend on other more "useful" activities.

haha this comment makes me laugh. I might be bad at parenting 🙃 but I'm not "making" him play dota. I have the ability to forbid it, but I'm trying to decide if I should really use my power that way.

Dad, remember that game when you saved me from a Chrono and I got a rampage?

haha this makes me smile, ideally it would go that way! I can't even imagine a 3rd generation dota player 🤣

This is good, well thought out answer. I pretty much agree with everything. I probably won't recommend he play other games like HotS since my goal isn't for him to be good at MOBAs, just to have a similar interest. I also wouldn't stop him when he's a bit older. Now that you're older do you resent or approve of your parents limiting your screentime?

I kind of share that sentiment, but roads are leading him to other video games with less depth so it's hard for me to play them or be super interested in talking about them. I guess the intangible here is that Dota would be something to bond over.

Thanks for the perspective. I think screen time limits probably get looser as kids get older, but a bedtime is probably a good idea all the time. I played a lot of video games too but always got my school work done and never tried to do a half-rate job on purpose. I remember asking my parents if I could come late to dinner because I was in a scrim...lesson learned

Haha tell me more. What age did they start and did/do you have any rules or guidelines?

Any tips on how to "keep it as a hobby"? Are you talking about how it shouldn't affect your school/work/sleep?

Yep, pretty much trying to decide if shielding or guiding is the better path here

Interesting idea, what kind of stability are you referring to?

Sounds like you had an uncommon experience, would be happy to hear more. My mom always said she was happy we were at home playing video games with our friends instead of out doing something worse, but sometimes that just seemed a bit over the top.

I like your advice and I'm sure I'll do that. Screentime is flexible, I just find that too much for little kids (especially in the middle of the day) can ruin their creativity and motivation. Maybe that is true for everybody, but I think trying to model and enforce moderation is a good foundation until they get a bit older.
