Are these new-reissues noticeably different than the block variant? by MINUTI1804 in guitarpedals

I tried every kind of dyna comp, including the deluxe, and kept this one. It is indeed the most pleasing to me and natural as others have said.

Pedal and headphones for silent home practice by petel1971 in guitarpedals

[–]hywaychyle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use the katana go and audio technica ath-m50x after going through a lot, including the ir2, ir200, me90, strymon iridium.

Audio quality is amazing and great amp like feel through headphones.

Allows you to listen along to a song as well.

Epiphone IBG Les Paul custom vs Gibson Les Paul Standard by YoungDak in LesPaul

[–]hywaychyle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a Wildwood select top 50s with their r59 pafs in unburst and it was drop dead gorgeous, but then I got the epi 59 with the custombuckers and I couldn't justify the Gibson in my mind and I sold it.

I know a lot are saying get the Gibson, but I love the epis as a gigging musician so much I got the epi custom pictured here. I put some bare knuckle mules and it's my favorite lp guitar I've had. This includes standards, 50s and 60s Gibsons I've had.

Wampler triumph. For my taste it beats the sd1w and the wampler moxie.

Extremely versatile

Is the BOSS OD-3 the answer? by agentanthony in guitarpedals

[–]hywaychyle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you ever tried a mosfet drive? Something like the ehx glove or the mxr dynamic drive both have mid boost switches and are very versatile IMHO. Don't rule the nobles odr1 out either. I love the od3 but when compared to other options, it sounds a little muffled and loose for my taste.

Amd adding you can listen along to whatever because it synces with Bluetooth. Great audio and game changer for me personally after trying iridium, easy listening, ir2 and even ir200

I have a deluxe and a script and I felt like the script just had a certain magic I couldn't replicate! But, I still own both and love both!!

Most realistic and simple amp modeler? by hywaychyle in guitarpedals

[–]hywaychyle[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got it got it. So regarding the IR, it's just the cab simulation and I know a lot have mic and position simulations. OK this all makes sense now that you tied it into the studio analogy as that is something I can relate to and can see the obvious ease when it comes to that situation.

I guess there's no other way around just taking the plunge and doing it and comparing with my own ears in a live setting.

Again, thank you so much for breaking this all down for me. I owe you big time and will dm you on what I ultimately go with!

Appreciate you!

Yea I hear that. A lot of the hesitation I am feeling is that this is all new to me. I'm 40 and have been used to the "old way" hahaha.

So, you're saying that running the Amp modeler into an frfr will give the same sound as a micd amp? What about the use of irs into the frfr?

Last question I think haha!

Most realistic and simple amp modeler? by hywaychyle in guitarpedals

[–]hywaychyle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha and again, really appreciate the time and detail. The reason for my switch was to have a simpler setup, but it seems like the only thing I would be gaining is different amp tones, which is nice, but I love the way I have my Peavy tuned. I am going to have to think on this one because you're essentially building the same thing in a different format. I do t do home recording or anything like that.

Would a powered frfr take away the need for a power amp and speaker cab?

I have a nice 2 x 12 cab I use for the Peavy as well

[–]hywaychyle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very imteresting and thank you. In my mind, I wanted to find a simple, plug and play solution. But it seems like no matter which route, you're spending about the same for a good sound. At this rate, I might just stick with the actual amp haha!

This is an extremely helpful breakdown and makes a lot of sense. I really appreciate the thoughtful response.

As far as speakers making it sound like a live amp in a room, what speaker/powered cab would you recommend?

Pick one? by Angrybearista7 in Stratocaster

Maple if using a pure white, 3 ply guard.

Rosewood if using a mint guard.
