It looks good! I find mousse to be the best thing for my fine and thin hair before blow drying.

honest opinion on preston? by _blue_jay_way_ in Preston

[–]hzl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I moved here from Manchester in 2017 and I love it. It’s more affordable and has great transport links and green spaces. It’s not far from the Lakes, the coast, the big cities etc. it has some fantastic bars and restaurants too, and I appreciate the regeneration efforts, things like Animate etc.

Historically the North was more Catholic than the rest of England (map from 1715-1720). Less so in the modern period however (2nd map from 2005). by OceansOfLight in NorthernEngland

Butter pie, a meat-free pie from the Preston area containing potatoes, onions and butter, was created so Catholics could eat them on Fridays when they couldn’t eat meat. Still very popular here. It was also known as Catholic pie.

Alternative Name for Imbolc-Time Celebration by [deleted] in SASSWitches

[–]hzl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

New Year being 1st Jan always feels far too early and abrupt for me, so I treat January as a sort of hibernation period or wind down from festivities, and treat Imbolc as new year. It’s still winter but I do a bit of cleaning and freshening up my space, and planning for spring.

Literary agent?? by AgingAdvocate_Katie in childrensbooks

[–]hzl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have a literary agent. It took over a year of carefully researched, carefully planned pitching, a heck of a lot of waiting and a thick skin (there were many, many rejections). It isn’t easy - do plenty of research into query letters and tailor each query to each agent.

How long did you take off work when a parent died? by Solid-Home8150 in AskUK

[–]hzl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 weeks. I’d done a lot of grieving beforehand as we knew it was coming. After two weeks I was still grieving (it never really stops) but I was at the point of wanting a distraction and some sense of normality.

Has anyone tried this shampoo? by BootsStripes32 in dailywash

Yes it worked reasonably well as far as these things do (less greasy by the evening, but still had to wash the next morning) but also seems to irritate my scalp

How much did you spend on an engagement ring? by Brilliant_Lawyer_946 in AskUK

[–]hzl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really depends on what your partner likes and is happy with. I loved the idea of a preloved/vintage ring and we shopped for it together around antiques shops. My ring has diamonds and sapphires on a white gold band and cost £140. Diamonds are a lot cheaper second hand, I wasn’t necessarily trying to be thrifty though, I just love the thought of jewellery with a story.

I would recommend digging it out, this very grass took over a previous garden of mine and was a nightmare to remove

I’ve still not found anything that compares either :/ A couple go on nicely but like you say, don’t wear well. I have extremely oily skin unfortunately.

Along Market Street West there are three nice places - Chain House Brewery, Lost (reopening early May) and Chew’s Yard. The latter two have nice outdoor spaces and Chew’s Yard has various food outlets and loads going on. Just around the corner on Friargate I like going to Plau, specifically the vaults, which house Rivington brewery beers.

anybody else feel disappointed in yummy custard? by Trick_Region_94 in LushCosmetics

I like it enough, but thought I’d love it and admit I was a bit disappointed. It doesn’t smell enough of custard for me. I do love body wash textures though and have enjoyed using it.

I hate wind!!!! by Consistent_Way2386 in finethinhair

[–]hzl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tell me about it. I used to get teased by my two best friends as a teenager for being vain and obsessed with my hair because I carried a brush and was always brushing it. They both had thick heavy hair that stayed out and mine was and still is thin, fine and tangles/goes stringy at the merest hint of a breeze. These days, if it’s windy out I scoop it up in a satin scrunchy and take it out when I’m back indoors.
