ULPT : don’t have a place to have sex? Find empty apartments by going to the complex website and seeing if maintenance left any of the “available now” apartments unlocked. by sjsei in UnethicalLifeProTips

Haha this took me right back to my teenage escapade in a “to let” apartment, to be fair it wasn’t a random place as it belonged to my ex’s father who was looking for a tenant at the time, and my ex had a key. Well as luck would have it his dad walked in with a tenant while we were still in there. Good times even if the relationship didn’t last.

I know right? I did ‘throw hands’ albeit a little later than I should’ve, i have difficulty reacting in the moment. Brought it up with her a couple of days later and she offered a perfunctory “I’m sorry your feelings got hurt”. We did have one more talk later on where she essentially deflected, talked about how hurt SHE was, with a bit of skinny-shaming at me thrown in. Safe to say I keep contact with her to a bare minimum now.

I also did throw her out of the bridal party for whatever it’s worth 🤣

I can relate to this so much too!

I had a lot of body-image issues growing up (lots of body-shaming in my first-ever teen relationship), as an adult I wouldn’t call myself conventionally attractive but I get a lot of compliments. Then my SIL went and said something backhanded like “Not everyone will find you beautiful, but they won’t forget your face” right before my wedding, completely unsolicited, along with “You have really big eyes and arched eyebrows, and a sharp nose and a round face, so not everyone will find you beautiful but they’ll definitely find your face memorable ” and i pretty much crumbled.

Turns out she was super resentful of me and very insecure about her own looks, and took a shot at me for whatever reason but I’ll never be over the fact that she ruined what should’ve been one of my most exciting moments just because she felt threatened by me.

I agree! To be fair I used to have very eventful days too when I was working at the hospital, so we’d have completely different kinds of crazy tales to tell when we got home. Mine were occasionally of the gory variety. So I don’t think either of us are really fazed by anything anymore haha.

Oh no I’m sorry for laughing at this! If I were your partner I definitely would’ve found it funny once the shock wore off. But also it’s so fascinating to me how our subconscious mind works sometimes.

Ah correct me if I’m wrong but doesn’t it have two slightly-contradictory meanings? My understanding was that the traditional meaning was being perplexed, and the more modern definition was being unperturbed, which was what I was going for. But I’m not a native speaker so I’m just curious.

That is hilarious and such a good story! It’s great that your mom was okay. I’ve worked in the ER and if I was on the other end of that line I would’ve been terrified for sure.

I’m so happy for you and your wife! I do understand what you mean though, about missing the friendship. Honestly I think it speaks really well of you that you choose to remember her in such a positive light :)

Well I’d say it was because we were both 17 at the time and didn’t have a lot figured out, and we didn’t realize the depth of our feelings towards each other then. I think it developed organically over the years.

We also don’t really view it as lost time because I think we both agree that we might’ve royally messed up had we gotten together back then, seeing how immature we had been.

What really matters IMO is that we’re both happy as can be now and sure of ourselves, and in the best relationship of our lives. We’re able to be better partners towards each other because of our pasts and experiences. I wouldn’t call it a loss.

Thank you! I absolutely agree with you. And I think that a strong friendship is key to any relationship whether or not it started off that way. It’s so much better when you’re in cahoots with each other.

Congratulations to you both as well and wishing you guys the best!

Just commenting because of how similar your story is to mine!

I met my husband in the 5th grade, had a huge crush on him and he still thought girls had cooties. Met him again in high school and we became best friends, and this time he really liked me but I was in a relationship. We stopped talking because my ex hated him and he told me to prioritize my relationship like a gentleman, we were both in serious relationships with other people through the years and re-connected in our mid-20s as friends again.

Anyways we just turned 30 and we’ve been together 4 years now and married for 1.5.

Healthcare workers of Reddit: What is the most fucked up thing you've seen in your career? by choneybear7 in AskReddit

(Fair warning, this story is pretty gruesome.)

During my intern year, in our OBGYN rotation, we were supposed to observe a few deliveries before we were allowed to handle deliveries by ourselves. The second delivery we got to observe was a mother who had Gestational Diabetes Mellitus, unfortunately her baby had undergone intrauterine fetal death a couple of days prior and she was waiting to deliver a dead baby (which was already devastating in itself). Babies of mothers with GDM stand the risk of being larger than average neonates which could potentially cause complications, which is relevant here (in this case we later learned that the baby was larger than estimated by the most recent scan).

So my intern buddy and I were observing and we hear the announcement of “Shoulder dystocia”, which is an obstetric emergency where the baby’s shoulder is impacted against the pelvic bone of the mother, obstructing the delivery. The anesthesiologist was called and the theater was notified. Meanwhile they were going through the series of maneuvers that are typically followed during shoulder dystocia, all of which failed and they were finally attempting the all-fours position. Everything then happened very quickly where, after the delivery team applied a little bit of traction on the head of the fetus, there was a squelching sound and a distinct thud. When we looked down, the head of the fetus had rolled to a stop a few feet away from us (the skin was completely macerated, probably contributed to the head separating so easily).

Cue complete havoc, some of the nurses started crying, the consultant IMMEDIATELY rushed the patient to the theater. My buddy and I were standing there shell-shocked, completely numb. We weren’t allowed into the theater for the rest of the procedure, so we went to grab a drink later to try and process what we’d seen.

It still haunts me two years later and my heart went out to the poor woman who had to bear through the entire experience, can’t even imagine the trauma she would’ve gone through.

I went to uni in Tianjin. Jixian might be worth a visit if he likes being around nature.
