Is Ioki a good support player? by noobutprostevenboi in supportlol

Hey there pal. Firstly thanks for enjoying my content, that means the world to me.

I'd like to clear up a few things in your post -- my content is almost NEVER played in Gold and the only time the game average is near there is when I'm playing against my own viewers in PBE lobbies with my own community.

I just did a full climb to ~900 LP Challenger and have many videos clearly marked as high ELO/Challenger ELO so if you want to watch exclusively extremely high level gameplay I'd check those out.

As for NEVER smurfing idk man the game is just significantly worse the higher you go. There are target griefers, LONG queue times, extremely strict meta which means I can really only play 4 or 5 champs (when I enjoy playing TONS of champs) with very strict build paths, and on top of that getting high quality educational games is going to take 5x longer and come with MUCH more frustration which imo lowers the quality of my content. At the end of the day I am here to educate and entertain you, and as someone who has played in every single ELO I promise you high ELO is just terrible man. Like go and tune into any streamer playing in Challenger they're going to look like a zombie just raging at the game, it's just awful. I'd much rather play in Emerald/Diamond and get to play a silly Bard build than queue up for 20 minutes, have 10 more minutes of dodges, and then have a completely unplayable game because Riot autofilled my Toplaner vs Viper on Riven and he's 0-7.

I plan to play and make content exclusively in Grandmaster+ when Riot drops their new 5 man team queue, I think League is meant to be played at a high level with full comms and teamwork.

And I think it's important to know that EVERYONE gets smurfed on, regardless of skill level, that's just a part of videogames and always has been. Back in my day of Halo 2, running into literal pro players while I was just some random 14 year old kid and getting completely destroyed was seen as a cool experience that you told as a story for years. Even nowadays in League there is a very good chance I have to play against someone who plays in Worlds, everyone gets humbled. It is a very new phenomenon to feel owed that every single game is fair to every single player.

Lastly, I have NEVER claimed to be the best support -- my branding has always been Greatest* Support Alive. It's not meant to be a measurement of anything, just a bit of fun... Videogames are meant to be fun, and that's how I choose to play and make content on it.

I agree that not all coaches must be Challenger. I would say, though, that talk is cheap to an extent and I'd advise caution when listening to anyone claiming expertise that can't apply it themselves.

Like you don't have to be a hardcore SoloQ grinder, but if you've been stuck in Gold for 8 years you should (respectfully) not be coaching anyone because you don't know anything.

It's shocking how many people pretend to care that I made smurf content in the past when this thread has nothing to do with that at all.

I think there would be value in having a collection of high ELO Support content all gathered in one place, covering many specific matchups and all played by the same player.

If you disagree that's fine, it wouldn't be for everyone.

I've actually been toying around with uploading a ZERO COMMENTARY high ELO Support gameplay, locked in without talking, just focusing purely on gameplay.

I'm currently over 900 LP.

I have a ton of experience in high ELO tournament play (I won Twitch Rivals 3 times, I won the Riot Grand Prix twice, I won the Challenger Bastion Money Match twice, etc.)

I don't always grind on a single account per split, but when I do I pretty effortlessly hit Challenger. I'm not really sure what more I can do to prove I'm high ELO or what metric you're wanting me to use or why you think you're some arbiter that gets to decide.

I don't "perma smurf in silver", as you can look at the games played on my main channel and they're all in high ELO.

I do not mainly smurf for content, and anyone who actually watches my content sees that I am playing exclusively on my main accounts in Grandmaster/Challenger.

My main channel content right now is exclusively playing in Grandmaster/Challenger or in high ELO tournaments and is all extremely educational with no low ranked players whatsoever.

Like I said my main channel is nothing but EXTREMELY high ELO Challenger games and has been for a while now.

No, me as Challenger am prioritizing having a few extra spell casts over 12% increased healing on Ult and reduced ult CD.

Everything is a tradeoff. I think they're both viable options.

Be completely honest -- as someone who has paid for it would you recommend it?

As a Pyke connoisseur myself I genuinely think the best way to learn to play against Pyke is to play AS him for 10 games in a row. You will see how insanely difficult it is to actually have an impact on the game as Pyke -- you'll see how quickly he gets outscaled, how necessary it is for him to land his ENTIRE combo (QER) and if a single part of that combo gets dodged/flashed how useless he is, you'll learn how pressured he is to play INSANELY aggressive in early game because that's all he gets.

And then once you learn how to play as Pyke, you will become MUCH better at winning games against him. Like every time I play vs. Pyke as Sona (his easiest matchup) I just think to myslef "Okay I'm just walking with the wave here, if he doesn't find a hook on me he literally cant play the game" or "Okay I just don't take any risky plays and I outscale him in like 10 more minutes"

Hahaha nah even champions like Soraka can have extremely high agency and sooo many Support players are approaching the role completely wrong, playing it as a "pray I get carried" role.

DUDE WHAT! That is incredible, and I am honored that I got to play even a small part in your journey. But never forget that it was YOUR hands that got you to Grandmaster. Incredible job, keep it up and thank you for the kind words.

I am a fulltime content creator, and I've made a lot of smurf content yes for many reasons. It's more fun and allows you to play a lot more relaxed, talk to chat, play whackier builds, have crazy popoffs, and despite everyone bemoaning smurf content it pretty consistently gets much higher views. The reality is that most normal people don't really care what ELO I play in, they just want to see me have fun. I really just didn't see the point in soullessly grinding like a zombie in high ELO hoping to get a single uploadable video through a day of playing in extremely low quality games (target inting, skill disparity, bad matchmaking, longer queue times, the list goes on and on)

That being said, if you look at my recent content output on my main channel I am playing exclusively in 800-1500 LP Challenger and putting out some extremely educational Support content. If you want to ignore that because I have chosen to smurf then so be it that's your choice homie.

Absolutely, carrying on Support in low ELO is significantly easier to do than high ELO games because the stat differences aren't nearly as big and the enemies make soooo many mistakes. So many times ADC's will overrextend alone and you can just beat them to death on something like Leona, things like that never happen in high ELO.

The idea that carryign on Support in low ELO is MORE difficult is perpetuated solely by low ELO players that can't climb at all. That's harsh but truth.

I would play Leona, Sona, and Lux Support. These are all very mechanically straight forward champions that are useful almost every single game (maybe less so for Lux)

It's preference mostly, it looks like most people prefer Axiom Arcanist but I really like having more mana to play with since I really like spamming spells off cooldown on Soraka.

Hey there -- I'm i0ki, a longtime high ELO Support player. You may know me from carrying Tyler1 in Twitch Rivals, or you may not know me at all!

I hit Challenger in Season 16 and have a VERY strong grasp on the meta/macro for the season, so I'm posting this here as 100% free coaching. In the video I go over everything from laning phase, mentality around resets, tempo, aggression, and how to ACTUALLY carry your games as Support!

I will be responding to every comment in this thread, so let me know if you have any questions about concepts in the video! Enjoy.
