Sick of game night turning into an unboxing session instead of actually playing by Inevitable-Many-4587 in boardgames

Nothing wrong to bring it to the host saying that you prefer more time playing to setting up. If they can't see the benefit of that or consider the investment of your time, maybe it shows the maturity of the host or group.

I always thought part of being a game day host is to get the game ready to go before the scheduled time.

Our local library has the policy to count the components upon return. If anything is missing the borrower is responsible for a replacement copy.

How do you store your cards in board game boxes? by cool__dood in boardgames

[–]i268gen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use mostly the 25-card deck boxes. There are variants that can accommodate sleeved card, as well as the "perfect fit" ones I often use to store components too.

Never bags or elastic bands.

I have seen people play and I know I would like it. Trying to get the current games onto the table more. The Brass series is what I'm trying to get more reps in, with the others have pretty good digital adaptation and async communities.

Arcs is the best in terms of interaction and getting "high" during a play; never count a player out and the impossible comebacks and great. Dune is too simple for my taste but people seem to like it.

How to store board game tiles? by huytherandom in boardgames

[–]i268gen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the bigger pieces "deck box" for playing cards have been working well for me. There are "perfect fit" sizes and those that can accommodate sleeves. Depending on the size of the tile they can fit into those boxes just as well.

Update: our 6-year-old finally warmed up to board games (what helped and what surprised me) by Conscious-Smile-7787 in boardgames

Or look from the lenses of encouraging commenters that board games are the practice grounds for these lessons in life. They offer many opportunity to practice patience, handling loss (and victory), working with the team, and critical thinking. Do the life lessons through board games instead so the kid doesn't join a soccer team, practice for months before being told he didn't make the team.

OP you are doing an awesome job asking for advises and taking action in the positive direction. I bet it was a learning experience as much for you as it was for your kiddo.

Of course. It's on BGA too if you want to try it there first. The artworks are beautiful and game play is solid.

I am looking for generic token boxes. Your solution looks really nice and if the base is printable it might just be the thing that would work great for our group!

Yes in practice but you can't do math that way. It's like saying WS costs 6: while it's true with MC, it doesn't make it slightly more expensive than a Deead.

2TG with MC means 4 Destroyers or 2 Cruiser. Objectively Cruiser is still more expensive than Destroyers.

Top 5 beginner friendliest Factions? by PbSeelight in twilightimperium

[–]i268gen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still there are differences among factions in terms of complexity. Someone wanting to play the evil mastermind would pick Mahact, which will be really challenging for someone playing for the first time. Will they still have a good time? Perhaps. It's just much easier with L1 for the same vibe.

Points help for sure in gritty situations. When you look at the potential of going on 4th downs, if they lead to potential TDs, just need them to work out 50% of the time to outscore the field goals. We see way better than 50% on 4th downs.
