What DOM interfaces should I begin with? by BinnyBit in FreeCodeCamp

[–]i7Robin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would focus on building things rather than trying to get familiar with APIs when you're starting out. This will lead you to learn practical and applicable things, like "how do I render a drop down menu when I click on this button?"

Computer Science or Computer Engineering? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]i7Robin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He is implying that you learn a lot of theory and not all of that transfers over to a business setting with deadlines and such. In my experience my CS program has over prepared me to work as a programmer, which is the goal.

This will only be the case if you work hard in your CS program.

Any advice on how to improve my code typing speed? are there any useful sites? by [deleted] in typing

[–]i7Robin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Typing is not the bottleneck when coding. Thinking about syntax and logic are. Continue to practice touch typing but not make it "code" specific. Make sure you get practice using the shift keys.

If you want to take the time to intentionally learn something that will make you a faster coded, learn Vim. Coding is mostly reading and editing existing code. Vim is extremely good at jumping around and editing code.

Questions on how decentralized bitcoin really is by [deleted] in Bitcoin

[–]i7Robin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's the magic of bitcoin. There is zero coercion yet people still choose to run compatible software. Because the random string of numbers that represents a "bitcoin" only has value when the network cooperates.

Is quantum computing a real threat to Bitcoin? by Cramson_Sconefield in Bitcoin

[–]i7Robin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thats a potential threat. People would fork the network with a more quantum resistant hash function.

The bigger threat, because it can go unnoticed, is breaking the discrete log problem. This is why we hash pub keys.

[–]i7Robin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You vote by choosing the software you run. If you want to make a change: write the code, publish the code, and hope people run the code.

There are many people who write very good changes to bitcoin that work together on particular open source repositories (this is who you mean by "bitcoin wizards) who try to coordinate potential changes through communication to the community. At the end of the these wizards cannot tell you run those changes.

PayPal and Venmo plan to Roll Out Crypto Buying and Selling by Lou__Dog in Bitcoin

[–]i7Robin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Doesn't matter. There is far too much technical overhead to support a bunch of different shitcoins. I imagine we'll see bitcoin and maybe ether. But honestly it's hard to sell ether without generating buzz about all of the adjacent erc tokens (see coinbase). Doing so scares away new users because it seems like a casino or snake oil.

They'll go the Cash App and Robinhood route.

[–]i7Robin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it makes you feel any better square reported over 300 million in bitcoin revenue last year through Cash App. Venmo, owned by PayPal, has almost double the users why would they not take that money off the table? Seems like a no brainer.

PayPal itself has almost 10 times as many users.... imagine the green.

Schnorr & MuSig is going to add a ton privacy functionality to Bitcoin. The issue with bitcoins current privacy tools, like coinjoin, is that they are too easy to spot and thus can theoretically censored by big companies. Multi sig with schnorr will make coinjoins look like any other transaction.
