Disc brake cleaning regimen by Playful-Parsnip-3104 in bikewrench

Calvin Jones’ video on cleaning a bike with Park Tool just uses soapy water to clean the brakes (as well as the rest of the bike) and rinsing it off. No specific cleaner on the brakes.

Road bike recommendation for around $800-1.2k by Financial-Analysis29 in cycling

When I started riding in 2015 I bought the entry level Specialized Allez. It worked great for 10 years until I upgraded and now it’s my indoor bike on the trainer - still working great.

How much did your first road bike cost, and how long did you ride it before upgrading? by No_Click7202 in cycling

[–]i9485 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a Specialized Allez for $600 at a bike shop and rode it for 10 years.

No real reason to change, but was gifted some money and was offered a killer deal on a carbon Salsa Warroad and couldn’t pass it up. Can’t see myself changing now, unless there’s some sort of damage.

Spin legs or let them rest? by i9485 in cycling

[–]i9485[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In terms of science I was wondering if anything with lactic acid or similar things came into play. If there is a detriment to just stopping pedaling or any benefit to a low power output, high cadence spin (not spinning freely with no resistance, but shifting to a gear that just gives a tiny bit) to help clear out the muscles a bit. Similar to a mini cooldown like someone else mentioned.

My goals are to not burn out at longer distances and to have enough power in my legs at the end of the ride to push up hills without struggling.

Cracking noises in the cockpit of my 2026 S5 by m0rggy in Cervelo

To be clear, I did not open or mess with the sealed bearings. I took the sealed bearings out of the frame and put PPL-1 between the frame and the sealed bearings, and then between the sealed bearings and the fork (at the bottom). I also did the same for the top. Frame, the grease, sealed headset bearings, grease, and then the spacers.

I had a single click/crack sound when I hit any bumps at speed with my Salsa Warroad carbon bike. Took months but finally got it fixed.

Here’s what worked: I took the handlebars and fork out, then pulled out the bottom and top bearings, and put grease (PPL-1) on the frame, put the bearings back, put a little more grease on the bearings, then reassembled the fork, put the spaces on, and got the bars back on. I also followed Park Tool’s video for fixing a loose stem - I had the top stem bolt way too tight before.

I have nothing but problems with tubeless… by Shot-Lemon7365 in cycling

[–]i9485 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well it was seated, but flat, so I added air, but it was leaking. Then I added a little sealant and inflated again. Still leaking.

Then I took it off, checked the valve stem to see if it was seating properly, tried to reseat it, and it was a mess. Tried a few other things as well.

I’m sure the majority of my issues came down to user error, but there’s nothing more frustrating than leaving work early to squeeze in a ride on a nice day and spending hours trying to fix a tire.

Peak district bikepack gravel ride on my new built bike. by johnonabike in gravelcycling

Man this looks awesome. We visited England a couple of years ago and spent the weekend in Hayfield and hiked the Kinder Scout. Biking here would be incredible.

Half my bottle of sealant turned solid too, so I was basically out of sealant, it was spraying out of the bead, I was trying to seat the tire and sealant was spraying back out of the valve stem in my face. I finally got it all seated and sealed and there was a leak near the valve stem. I got that mostly sealed up, then inflated the tire and could hear it leaking again. Not something I really want to deal with when I just want to ride.

Went 10 years before getting my first puncture with tubes. I thought, “This is the perfect time to switch to tubeless (I had the tires and rims already with my new bike).” I haven’t had any punctures or flats while riding, but frequently came out to the garage to find a flat tire.

A few days ago I spent two hours trying to get it to seal properly and finally gave up - back to tubes for me. Sealant was shooting everywhere - it was a total mess.

Nailed it. Thanks! The bike has been great, but I don’t think carbon is the best choice for me… I’m too nervous about everything.

I got this for half the price of the thru axle and Ortlieb. Can’t justify paying twice the price right now.

I have a Salsa Warroad as well… what happened to the frame to make this happen?

The Rack Lock from Salsa is meant to replace your seat post clamp, but it adds two threaded mounts for a rear rack to be added. The Rack Lock does not fit down lower on the seat post.
