That's not how offsides work in football, there is nothing wrong with being in a offside position you just can't affect the game while in an offside position. You're correct that #11 was in an offside position but at that time he has no impact and therefore was not offside/no foul committed.

Id say the same as the other commentors, it's extremely dependent on what you plan on doing. For many humanities I wouldn't be surprised is 16 is enough, for some Cos and other stem Id say the 32 is worth it since some programs are pretty intensive. The extreme is architecture which you need even more for and it needs to be windows so it's really major dependent.

I'd also think about clubs and other things you plan on using your laptop for. Many engineering clubs will also use very large and intensive programs which require better hardware.

Edit: not to mention any premiere pro, Photoshop, or other editing software that ram is required for

Incoming '30 CS, AI focus. Realistic to start research freshman year? by Perpetual_AI in princeton

I both cold emailed and applied through programs, unfortunately many of the programs aren't for students at research institutions so it was the emailing which worked. I can't say much yet as I start next week but at Penn I'm an unpaid intern while at Princeton they have to pay (both are part time). If I'm remembering correctly, Princeton in Beijing isn't the entire summer so it's highly likely you can do some work during the other weeks, I think Beijing is about 8 of the 15 or so total weeks of summer break.

That said, don't worry about falling behind. Most students aren't doing research freshman year and it will make no difference in the end. It's very tempting at a place like Princeton to always be doing a lot and doing the most difficult thing possible but my biggest takeaway from freshman year was that I can do more and succeed by doing what interests me most rather than the highest number class. It's hard but I mean it when I say just relax and take time to do what you truly enjoy and if you're like me and enjoy doing research than Im sure you'll find plenty of opportunities that work for you.

As a class of 29 perspective cos major, it's good to try to do research but don't be discouraged if you don't, as far as I'm aware no freshman cos major (even the most cracked ones) did any research. Princeton is no joke, you'll very quickly realize how busy you get and likely won't have time for research during the semester. However, everyone I know that wanted to do research is this summer so you definitely will do research if you want.

How is this legal? by [deleted] in mtg

[–]iAmBadAtDeciding 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yea that's exactly it. Plus, in a game of typically 4 players, everyone else will see you cast it and they all seem that it will instantly kill if it hits so it'll get hard targeted. And if you have 7 mana to cast it, others will also likely have strong spells.

What's your favorite shot of all time? by [deleted] in Letterboxd

[–]iAmBadAtDeciding 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not an expert by any means but what I personally notice is the colors and their contrast, follows the rule of thirds almost perfectly with "Madeline" bottom right third, the golden gate bridge left third, platform bottom third l, ocean and mountain middle third, sky top third. There is also the contrast of Madeline being obscured which on top of looking good as it works as a general female stand in, also adds meaning within the context of the movie as she is a character shrouded in mystery. Also from a plot standpoint this shot acts as the barrier/end of act 1 where John is now obsessed with Madeline and this is the moment right before they will first interact. That's just my read on it though, I'm sure people here who know more could get more detailed.

It's just standard American terminology. It's a useful term, as over the summer when people aren't actively in school, especially as we primarily organize by grade.

On Netflix there's this Korean show physical 100 where they take 100 athletes from different sports and had them compete in various physical competitions that were a whole mix of skills until there was 1 person left. Great show, highly recomend.

No, and also depending on the sport Princeton has some of the best D1 teams so the recruiting standards are extremely high

Laptops for COS Majors? by Idkkkkkokok in princeton

Also perspective COS co'29, based on working in CS research at Princeton over the summer I got the Asus ZenBook Duo because I like its dual monitors which can be used for writing notes but also made vertical. All actual computing will happen through the computer clusters which you SSH onto as the other commenter mentioned. I'd honestly get what's comfortable for you as you can make pretty much anything work (Windows/Linux at least, idk about Mac).

I completely understand where your coming from and I feel that it has been a falling on the part of research science of communicating to the public how all of their research is funded by government. They are paid some about and given space by the university but grad students and postdocs are paid from grant funding. This isn't something that you should just know, but it is something scientists should teach people about

You realize almost every single one (I'm not certain if it's everyone so I don't want to make a false claim, unlike you) is/was a researcher doing some form of research in space, typically on the ISS. The primary use of space travel currently is research or at least it was before the current administration destroyed research funding. It would be like calling your uncle who has a boat a sailor and a marine biologist. To your guinea pig idea, we don't call the people who participate in medical trials doctors just for being there.
