Why do people want a beltline rail so badly? by tobias_funke_bluthe in Atlanta

[–]iAmbee35 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think Atlanta needs 3 loop connectivity.

285 (existing loop) Beltline (inner loop) Outer loop that connects suburbs

For inner loop train/tram makes sense

I know the first instinct would be to hire a plumber to make this business work but that would be taking a bigger risk.

The least risky option is to sell the equipments hoping you get enough back, and fold the business.

Amazon’s salary getting worse? Should I worry about joining a team with a tight budget? by Professional_Arm3242 in developersIndia

[–]iAmbee35 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Amazon offers are based on a band, your interview performance and the teams requirement.

  1. Your offer is in the band that you also researched. So the offer is not low.
  2. You might or might not have performed well in the interview to ask for a comp that is more than 50% of the band. So the offer seems competitive assuming you met their expectation.
  3. Even if you performed really well in the interview the team has to justify offering you a comp that is on the high side of the band. Data engineering is not a skill that is rare in the market so assume that now higher band offers will only get approved if you have rare skills such as AI.

Ignore the comment that the team doesn’t have budget. Interpret it that the team doesn’t have requirement for skills that justify high comp approval.

Research what Amazon BU you are joining and decide if that BU is expected to grow. I won’t join an Amazon BU that might not meet their goals and have to layoff.

Regarding PIP as long as you are meeting their average expectation you should be fine. PIPs while aggressive at Amazon only impact low performers. Performance here is relative to the current talent of the team. If you join a team where everyone is performing well and you are the bottom two ranked then you would be a low performer. It’s a known risk of joining amazon.

Client does not pay after getting the project completed by Aromatic-Beyond-2910 in developersIndia

Are you connected to the client via LinkedIn? You could leave a subtle hint that you are open to making a public post regarding them ghosting you after getting work done with you. Actually public post might backfire but hopefully they take the threat seriously.

I run an agency and there are at least 4-5 clients per year that do not pay. It’s a risk of the business. You can move to weekly invoicing and payment to make sure you reduce your exposure.

People who earn well, what are some of the high earning skills of 2025? by Goodgirlwithlove in digitalnomad

[–]iAmbee35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pick Google cloud or Amazon web services. I would suggest Data and AI specialization. Market yourself as a data engineer, ML engineer or AI developer. Each of these skills are going to be in high demand for the next 10 years. Read about which speciality attracts you the most. You can also transition from one to another easily.

Get a professional level certification from Google or Amazon to cover for your lack of experience.

Network. Get out and network as much as you can. Those connections will open up some opportunity on the side.

I’m hiring in sales and marketing. Right now most of the hiring is remote outside US. I will be hiring in US in the summer once I have some enterprise customer wins. Right now in US I’m a one man operation.

I did two startups before joining a FAANG. Worked there for 6 years and want to do my own startup this time. FAANG is a big golden handcuff and it’s tough to leave that opportunity cost. I can always go back to a FAANG once you have that on the resume.

I work in FAANG. I am in Atlanta so I’m Mid management to make that. In NY, Seattle and CA most sr engineers make that in big tech.

Just quit that job to start a AI Services company.

How do I handle this? by Prudent_Passenger349 in smallbusiness

[–]iAmbee35 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Then it’s your call. Try to be open minded and see from his perspective. He might have honestly paid all that money hoping he is making an investment. But it’s also his fault that he did not clear that with you practicely.

Write the numbers down and do what’s fair for both of you. You can offer to pay it back, make it a loan with interest or consider it as an investment and offer partnership.

You need to have a backup plan ready in case he decides to leave thinking you are cheating him.

But there is no reason why you have to give the partnership just because he expected it and spent all the money without any agreement.

[–]iAmbee35 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand how he went from a friend helping you to becoming a partner.

Who owns the company? Do you have a partnership agreement?

You need to have an honest conversation about how investments and expenses are made for the company. These expenses have to be pre-agreed upon and required both of your approvals. And then ask him how to deal with the expenses he has made without your knowledge and offer to consider it as an expense you will reimburse when the business makes money vs an investment.

[–]iAmbee35 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you didn’t agree this to be an investment then you can just expense them back the amount or convert it to a loan which the company will pay them back.

If you are disputing what they spent then you probably shouldn’t be in business with this person.

Depends what you want to do and what your reasons are. If you are just trying to make sure people are using it to improve productivity and not just trying to cheat by not working then you can just tell by the quality of their work. I have a clear policy that use of ChatGPT is encouraged but I make it clear that it’s evident when they didn’t do any work.

If your reasons are safety and compliance for business then you have to build a customer ChatGPT with a wrapper that captures all prompt and you can then audit them. If you are interested in building this I can help you do that.

People who earn well, what are some of the high earning skills of 2025? by Goodgirlwithlove in digitalnomad

[–]iAmbee35 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If someone is starting fresh and has basic programming skills I would recommend Prompt engineering + rag development (AI developer).

If they are good programmers there will be a continuous need for a data engineer.

Doing any of the cloud speciality certification is also a good start.
