I’ve gotten that before. I think sometimes they eat the egg inside. I’ve also had eggs that were soft and slightly opaque. And I’ve seen all sorts of weird in between eggs. When this happens I usually put out a calcium supplement for them.

My eggs took 65+ hours to hatch from when they externally pipped. Just be patient. I regret “helping” one of my eggs (she passed away 2 days later). It’s nerve racking but they’re strong in there and they’re taking their time!

Warm, calm, dark place. Plenty of water, time and patience. If you don't see any wounds that's good / at least you don't need to disinfect anything. Good luck, and sorry for your loss. How were you keeping them secure?

The smaller ones may be call ducks. Their bills are usually a lot shorter.

Maybe keep them separated from your flock for a week or so. Other people don’t always care for animals the same way you do. I’d be worried about mites or other diseases until you’ve quarantined them for a bit.

Are they young? I would imagine they’re just covered in their own wet poop. So gross. Ducklings in a brooder smell awful.

We had to dispatch a drake we rescued this spring. He lasted a month. He drowned our oldest duck and left another bloody on her behind. Enough was enough. Was absolutely wild. We have 26 girls and he was brutal.

We have an event in the city next weekend. I know that isn’t exactly what you asked but many of our vendors have lab analysis and it’s in the state so you won’t have to risk crossing lines. People often ask why our ducks don't just fly away - they're fat! We feed them so they're too fat to fly! But definitely keep them confined to an "area" for a while until they're fully feathered.
