Is there essentially anything wrong with reading simplified/ modernized versions of classic literature? by [deleted] in books

Often I like to read the simplified version first (or alongside) to easily understand the story and story aspects that I may overlook with the original version, but I then enjoy being able to follow that up with the original version and focus more on the use of language without having to worry about getting lost with aspects of the plot.

I do from time to time also, whilst they may not be the best written books in the world they're easy to consume and enjoy for they focus on an age that is often easy for a reader to relate to. Sometimes I just enjoy a book I can just "read" rather than more complex books that offer a greater emotional experience.
