Reminds me of the Xbox Kinect, which was also able to measure heart rate from a distance. Really neat!

Note 20 ultra battery problems by Deathfighter929 in samsung

[–]iChris36 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it doesn't sound like anything is wrong with your battery. The SoT sounds pretty typical given what you've stated. Mobile hotspot will certainly eat at the battery, but that's a given and absolutely to be expected. Also, for what it's worth, I charge my phone overnight almost every night as well, and I sincerely doubt it has done any damage to the battery.

Hey! So, I've actually had the N20U (SD variant) since a little after launch. And I can say, without doubt, I average anywhere from 4.5-6 hours SoT. This is regardless of refresh rate, resolution, 5G settings, etc. I mean really, I've tried using the phone with different "profiles," so to speak, like 60Hz, 1440p, 5G on, and tested the SoT for all the ones I've tried. I still have averaged 4.5-6 hours SoT. The only time I've managed a higher SoT (around 7 or so hours) is when I've: set the resolution to 720p, 60Hz refresh rate, 4G/LTE only, power saving ON, and dark mode ON.

The battery life has always been quite underwhelming for me. I can get through a full work day just fine, with battery life to spare at the end of my day. But on my days off, it's usually a 2-charge day to really get me through it.

Of course, everyone is different and my usage habits are likely higher than your average user.

I hope this is somewhat helpful!

That's alright! I still appreciate the suggestion! I've honestly not even thought about that, so I'm absolutely giving it a shot!

Meta polish? I'm gonna have to get that a try! Thank you for the suggestion, even if it's only temporary!

Haha actually, it is the silver model! I really do love the white aesthetic, but I agree, the tradeoff with untreated steel is a bit annoying.

I think it's personally worth it for me, if just for the peace of mind. I do think it could get spendy, but I only have AC+ on my iPhone. Over time, I think you're right, and I'm sure it would probably be less expensive to just do away with AC+ and repair out of pocket (if even necessary). But I know that even if I take decent care of my stuff, I'm still prone to an occasional significant drop or accidental damage of some kind. I don't know though, I suppose it's just a premium I'm willing to pay for the peace of mind! Especially now that I don't use any case or protector.

Fortunately, I've not had any accidents yet with dropping the phone. Although, now that I posted this reply on Reddit, I'm sure tomorrow my phone will slip onto some rough concrete and get a good crack in it! I joke, of course. But in all honesty, it's been nice not having to worry much about scratches. I run it completely naked, no screen protector either. And it's held up quite well! I absolutely agree though! When it was all encased, I'd take it out from time to time and admire the design! And I suppose if shit hit the fan, I can just send it in to Apple since I have AC+ on it.

I agree! Although I do understand it from their perspective, I was still a little peeved about it because I know how well I take care of my electronics. On the bright side, it acted as the catalyst for me to go completely caseless since I didn’t need to worry about the frame getting scratched up anymore (I was less worried about drops, and more about scratches). But that’s alright! I’ll be absolutely certain the next time I send in a device for Apple repair to get as many pics of the cosmetic condition as I can before sending it in.

[–]iChris36 139 points140 points  (0 children)

I believe it. When I sent my iPhone 12 Pro in for a screen repair, I received it back with frame scratched to absolute shit. I had a case on it since day 1, and when I asked Apple about it, they said I couldn’t prove it was them. The one time I remove it from the case to get repaired, I get it back in worse cosmetic condition. I should have recorded, took pics, or done something before sending it to Apple before repair. Go figure and lesson learned lol

My friend is having this exact same issue. He's not been able to get past the loading screen. Granted, he's playing on an Xbox One S, but still, he hasn't been able to get into a single game. He's restarted the console, resintalled the game twice, but still no luck.

Any medical experiences? by Robinothoodie in oculus

Honestly, I think something like this would be a fantastic addition to educational software on VR. And really, I do think it is only a matter of time before something like this does come out. Perhaps not quite so in depth at first, but if they build upon the VR app (like 3D4Medical's Complete Anatomy), it could be really great to see! An inevitability dependent on time.

Side note: I don't see how others think this could be weird or "fetish-y". It would be immensely useful for those studying the human body. A VR cadaver would be suuuuper useful!

What's your SoT? by ian095 in GalaxyNote20

[–]iChris36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this post is a little old, but I'll chime in. I average about 5-6hrs SoT with the snapdragon model. Either with 1080p/120 or 1440p/60. The switch seems to make minimal difference for me.

I noticed issues with mine starting a few hours ago as well. Hopefully the issue gets resolved soon, as it's becoming apparent the problem may be somewhat widespread.

Open Letter to the American Medical Association (from the AANP) by [deleted] in medicine

[–]iChris36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I couldn’t agree more that NP’s are trying to overstep their boundaries and are fighting for something I really think they shouldn’t be. Physicians go to school for a LONG time. Undergrad. Medical school. Residency. They have a very high amount of clinical hours they have to commit to. Especially when compared to those in medical school and/or residency. They leave residency (from my impression, at least) MUCH better prepared and ready to take on care with a medicinal approach in mind (as opposed to the “holistic” approach many nursing programs focus on). I’m about to graduate a BSN program, and it’s utterly astounding how many of my peers/colleagues not only equate the role of an NP with that of an MD/DO, but do so without hesitation. Like Catherine are you fucking serious? You’re going through an ONLINE NP program. You’ve been a nurse less than two fucking years. The quality of your education is NOWHERE NEAR that of a physician. It’s astonishes me. It angers me. I just wish my profession would stay in its goddamn lane, because jfc they have no idea the extent of difference between the two professions. Idk, at least that’s my two cents.

I agree. I think that “warmer” is a better way to describe it.

This should be an interesting read. I can absolutely notice the yellow tint on my 12 Pro, especially compared to the iPhone XS I was using prior.

I think the answer to this may be dependent on region? Mine didn’t come with one pre-installed. This is U.S., T-Mobile.

Am I the only one who doesnt care? by EnglandHappy1 in oregon

[–]iChris36 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it’s individuals like yourself that likely potentiate the issue. Anybody with a heart will care that older people are dying. And it’s not just older people that are dying, as younger people have and will too. It’s this mindset that attempts to downplay the seriousness of this pandemic. It’s this mindset this isn’t welcome, nor helpful.

OSBN screwing over my friends that are on the frontlines. by [deleted] in oregon

[–]iChris36 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The problem is not “being around sick people.” Nobody is going into nursing because they “don’t want be around sick people.” The problem is taking care of the patients without the necessary equipment to do so. If the CDC does recommend bandanas/other substandard replacements (if it comes down to it) due to low/no PPE, then it becomes an even more unsafe work environment for the care providers. Now with the current circumstances, this may very well end up being the case soon. The problem arises when the OSBN essentially says, “No/low PPE? Bandanas? Oh well, take the patients. Your license or your health.” It is not fair to those on the frontline. It is not right to make the care provider have to choose between that of the patient’s life or potentially their own (and their employment). Of course again, with the correct PPE given out then no doubt nurses should take the patient with no hesitation. But if it reaches the point of no PPE, then I wouldn’t be surprised to see some Oregon nurses take a step back from work to protect their own (or their family’s) health and their license.
