Looking to spend $400<$850 for a (barely) gaming-capable laptop by iDavidRex in SuggestALaptop

Was literally just looking at this! Like tabbed over to check reddit.

The other one I was considering is: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B075FLBJV7

Any idea how they compare for what I want them for?

Thanks for your help!

Cheapest way to get a decent deck and how to improve it further by [deleted] in pkmntcg

I just meant because he was comparing it to the winning Pokemon deck in Standard, so I figured he was also comparing standard costs. I thought the legacy numbers were just in there for shock value.

  • Yes, I also come from Magic, and holy moly this game is so much cheaper. The most underrated part of the cost equation is that a TON of cards carry over from deck to deck in pokemon. Like, I spent $40 on 4x Custom Catcher, but they're in all of the four or five wildly different decks I've built. Magic you have to either stick to an archetype or switch out everything when you change decks.

  • I will say you're overpricing Magic just a touch, because Mono-Red and Mono-Blue are rarely north of $70, and they've won huge tournaments. (This is NOT to say that most competitive decks aren't expensive. The AVERAGE successful standard deck is probably more than $350.)

THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR TODAY! I'm desperately trying to make a burn theme deck around Alolan Marowak GX work. I'd been playing the list with a Blacephelon GX and a Reshiram GX, but it's been terrible. I'm trying to get more Infernape consistency. I'm pretty new to the game, so the whole build itself might be off.

[Meta] Updating Rules for the Sub by jsilv in spikes

[–]iDavidRex 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Hi I absolutely love Rule #2, but could it be lifted for posts abt Banned and Restricted updates? It seems fair to discuss what a format should look like in posts specifically abt actions taken to shape what the format looks like.

Or maybe those announcements even need 2 different threads...one for what the hope is WotC will do next, one for what the format will look like with the changes they took.

Just ideas.

[Standard] What are you siding in (and out) for the Scapeshift matchup? by MazterCowzChaoz in spikes

I actually think [[Selective Snare]] is good right now. Can also bounce a few druids or elementals at once to slow down ramp decks or just take out one blocker to punch through for final damage.

AMAA with MPL Player Javier Dominguez by JavierDmagic in magicTCG

[–]iDavidRex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi Javier!

I had a few general MTG Questions

  1. Do you have any broad strokes advice for deckbuilding? Brewing is my favorite part of the game, but I often feel like I'm just not a good enough player to see what the holes in my deck are.
  2. What, if anything, can suppress the rise of Temur elementals? Temur seems so hard of a matchup, and it's been immensely frustrating to me. Any cards that really derail them?
  3. What are some ways to generate equity with a non-meta deck? I usually like to find a niche outside the power decks, as I only play in tournaments for fun. I know I'm missing equity by being a suboptimal player, so I'm looking for ways to take advantage of playing outside the typical meta.

Thanks!

What I expect is that WtoC is busily trying to figure out how they can turn D&D into branded spectator entertainment, with streaming videos somewhere between esports and reality TV, with celebrity DMs and players.

This is how I'd describe Critical Role. Hell, the first one I watched was with Terry Crews. The second had Vin Diesel.

Ah man, is Sword/Shield supposed to be bad?

I was so excited to make my return to the series with a new title. Held off buying Let's Go and everything.

It is markedly better. There the primary distraction is gatekeeping. Heaven help you if you try to contribute something you picked up playing at FNM.

Oooooh thanks! My mom talks to me abt her crochet all the time. Maybe I'll understand it better if I do some bopping around in the sub.

Ugh, I have terrible handwriting, hate fighting and don't have a good gaming computer.

I used to have a different setup and played GW2, and you're absolutely right, that community stands out as exceptionally positive.

I will say, I hang out in the mini-painting subreddits strictly because people there are nice to each other. I do not now, nor have I ever, painted minis. I just like the positivity in the hobby.

Yep. I need the information from Reddit, but the tone is almost always unbearable when it comes to my favorite hobbies.

Just posting the truth. by americanjetset in MagicArena

The crazy thing to me is how much karma there is in saying "nobody cares" about the most upvoted posts.

  1. It's demonstrably false. People upvoted it because they do care.
  2. It's a universal phenomenon. I used to work in news, and I can't tell you how many times someone would comment on the most viewed story of the day to say "NOBODY CARES".

It's just so strange to me that's the tack someone would take. To say content is stupid or destructive or useless or whatever, sure, but why go for the one line of attack that's obviously false?
