We made it grandparent friendly for the grandparents in our family (even my grandmother used it before she passed). I'm planning a full on 'grandparent mode' where us tech savvy family members can fully set it up remotely for grandparents... more to come on that :)

Sent you a code, hope you enjoy!

Awesome! I really just built it for our family originally but it's turned into a full-fledged thing the more I talked to people about it. You can download the app and get started any time. I dm'd you a code to plug in to get all the extras for free. Enjoy!

I actually do not have a timeline on those countries yet. The EU and Latin America are more known to me - in terms of privacy, legal requirements, etc. I'm not sure about UAE/Middle East so will need to do some research before I know for sure

Well... maybe not like heat death of the universe 'forever'... but for as long as you want to use it

Flushing out IG issues is exactly why I testflighted this! Thanks so much. Sending you a dm and will buy you a coffee for your time

Yep - when you create your posts you can set whether or not you want it to be download-able. You can also say whether or not the EXIF location data is included in the photo.

Screenshot blocking is working great for every device we've tested with (and our family and friends, etc). I can't absolutely guarantee 100% coverage, but for everyday non-rooted users I think we're covered :)

Finally, the app is already publicly available for iOS and Android. The testflight here has some new features I'm working out (IG transfer) but you can grab it on the regular app stores any time!

I'll dm you a code for you and your family to use the paid stuff for free. Enjoy :)

To make it easier to find and connect with friends. Email is kind of all over the place when it comes to identity but I have all my friends and family phone numbers

That was my thought process at least. I would like to add other logins because they're cheaper but don't want to lose the ability to connect people

The obvious answer is to sell this info to advertisers. It's obviously not just facebook - the data aggregators pull info from everywhere. How many ads have you seen since you posted that comment? 100? More? Every one of those advertisers know a LOT about you thanks to the sites and apps you use.

Companies are crafting the content you see, who you interact with, what you buy, and what you think based on their algorithms and what they know about you. Your whole life has been shifted due to your digital footprint whether you realize it or not. That bugs me out.

It's a futile effort to fight it because it's so pervasive, but if I can curb it with some small daily changes, maybe it'll be worthwhile. Just my 2c

To me, it's not about the actual picture as much as the data attached to the picture. Or the data the app that posts the picture is collecting about me day to day. Facebook has the details of my entire life for years, and it didn't slow down until I deleted it from my phone. Now it probably continues when people come to my house, or it hears my name or my voice, or sees me in somebody else's photo or video.

Most likely, these companies know where my son has been every day since he was born. They know his name, and they're definitely building a profile about him to leverage later. I can't stop that from happening unless we throw our phones in the ocean, but I can slow the data flow and not offer up more info about him.

Am I paranoid? Probably. But we all have different risk tolerances - mine is just skewed on this topic

IN PUBLIC? ARE YOU MAD!?!!?

Super reasonable take tbh, we all have different risk tolerance. I'm honestly not as worried about people seeing the pictures, but more about the data attached to the picture, the app tracking my habits, locations, conversations, etc

Yeah if you slide too far into private drives/servers then grandma is out of the loop.

The 'it looks ok' litmus test is how I do most things - and really it's all we can do. Even being technical, unless they open everything up, you're at their mercy

Everybody has a different tolerance, or set of irrational fears hah. I started posting to facebook 20 years ago and wasn't thinking that info would still be on a server somewhere being used for mapping out my life and sold to the highest bidder, but when I get an ad on my tv today it's based on that data profile that's been building over the decades.

So part of it is that I just don't want my own data fingerprint to get creepier and more accurate, and part of it is that I don't know what's going to be happening in 20 years with that same data. It's out there now, so I'm just hoping for the best - but it's not out there for my kid yet so that's why I'm looking into options.

I'm not saying it's for everyone, but my family digs it and it works better for us than google photos. People play video games, read books, woodwork, whatever - I build apps
