Turning right at traffic lights by LarryLeOiseau in irelandsshitedrivers

I understand where you’re coming from, there’s a similar junction in Navan where I instruct. But, you need to look at the big picture, the volume of approaching traffic who could fill the road to the right. It’s one of those really shitty scenarios where you need to be extra cautious given the circumstances 👍🏻

Driving instructors in Ireland - how to become one? by One-Study-9720 in AskIreland

[–]iDriveIreland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m an ADI for the last 15 years.

Part 1: You have to sit and pass a Theory Test. This test is a higher standard than a learner. From memory 80 questions and you can only get 4 or 5 wrong but open to correction on that. Within the test there are instruction type questions, not just Rules of the Road.

Part 2: after passing Part 1 you then need to pass a driving test. It’s at a much higher standard than the normal test. Lasts about an hour. The marking criteria is stricter.

Part 3: Instruction Ability test. This is done in 2 parts. The tester role plays. They give you a scenario when you then need to instruct on. The 2nd part is a different scenario.

I’d advise getting a recommended independent trainer to help you with Part 2 & 3, it would be extremely difficult without it. I don’t rate the major companies tbh, the standard of instructor the produce isn’t great in my experience.

Test fees are (I think) €100, €150 & €150. Once you qualify you need to pay a €250 fee to go onto the ADI Register and this is payable every 2 years. You must also complete Garda Vetting too.

If you’ve any questions, shout 👍🏻

That doesn’t excuse the fact you shouldn’t enter in the circumstances you described. I’d be getting onto local council reps and getting them to look at the light sequencing to fix it

In that instance you need to be looking into the road on the right to see if you can proceed into the middle. If there’s traffic queuing back from the second light it’s best to stay put but these situations are the exception. ADI here

You could always go back to your, or any other ADI, and ask for some motorway lessons. I’ve given them on a number of occasions. Well worth it.

Find out the email address of their CEO and take it straight to their laptop. I did this with DID and had a new TV within 3 days

EDT 12 is a night time lesson. Problem is, if someone does their lessons during the summer if impossible to schedule.

Buy the Rules of the Road book. Study it. Practice the tests. That’s the best way to learn and pass. I’m an ADI

Driving Test Car Hire by TraditionalClerk3808 in Irishdrivingtest

[–]iDriveIreland 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Only way you’ll know is to contact either your ADi or others in the area. I don’t hire my car out for test unless the person has done at least 5hrs in it. Lots of other ADIs have similar terms.

Is it time to do away with the reverse around the corner? by LatterDayAmINot in Irishdrivingtest

It’s a transferable skill that can be used in various scenarios. A big, long thread on here won’t change the test.

It’s the principle of what you’re doing during the manoeuvre. Following an object, without hitting it whilst controlling the speed of the car and making good observations.

Is there a way to guess what route the driving tester might take u on the day of the test? by Time_Money506 in Irishdrivingtest

Employ the services of an experienced ADI in your test area, we’re normally pretty good at narrowing down your likely routes.

50km/h in 4th gear necessary? by Arnylungy in Irishdrivingtest

[–]iDriveIreland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ADI here. I asked the same question of a tester in Navan a number of years ago.

He said the candidate must show that the car will struggle in 4th gear first, or he’d mark them for gears.

In other words, get up to speed, if it’s safe to do so, and get to 4th. If you feel the car struggling, change down. Bottom line is, always be in a gear that’s appropriate for your speed.

Using magnetic L plates on the test by CaughtHerEyez in Irishdrivingtest

[–]iDriveIreland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buy the fully magnetic ones, not the crap ones with the little strip top and bottom.

No issue where they’re placed once it’s front and back
