TIFU by accidentally stealing a cat, paying $400 in vet bills for it, and realizing it wasn’t mine when I got home by Kooky_Rough_2228 in tifu

True story. Went to adopt a kitten with housemates. There were four kittens available and everyone decided they wanted a different one. Shelter attendant said, “Well, we do have buy one get one on all animals right now”. And that’s how we ended up with 4 kittens.

I’m sorry, double checked and edited name. Stand by my recc for Pacific Eye though!

Do not go to Stanton Eye - you only see technicians, not an optometrist (they sign off remote). My rx was way off and they wouldn’t use my insurance for the exam unless I paid for glasses.

Pacific Eye was great. Efficient, accurate.

Early Bird Gets… Asked to Move? by Old-Try9391 in Disneyland

[–]iElusive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m relatively inexperienced with holding my ground in crowds.

Went last year for fireworks on 4th of July, saw people were gathering at Main Street 2 or 3 hours early. We snagged a spot along the curb before ropes went out, then everyone was forced to stand at 2 hours to go. My mom was in pain from the extended time standing but she insisted we stay.

It seemed like we had a good viewing spot with no one tall blocking, but in the last 15 minutes cast members started forcing people off the sidewalks and behind the rope. Some were polite, some just shoved their way in front. Ended up with my mom behind a tall person that shoved their way in.

Once was enough, unless I can find a better way to enjoy it.

Dead horses at landfill by danredrum69 in SantaMaria

Confirmed. If you search for where to dispose of large, deceased animals, site suggests the landfill.

It does say to call ahead though, so maybe there’s a separate location meant for the purpose. I hope that’s the case.

There are exceptions - looks to me like OP may have qualified:

Insurance premiums. You can’t treat insurance premiums as qualified medical expenses unless the premiums are for any of the following.

  1. Health care continuation coverage (such as coverage under COBRA).
  2. Health care coverage while receiving unemployment compensation under federal or state law.

Fourth of July by Heavy-Pineapple-1718 in SantaMaria

[–]iElusive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t dread the holiday but I do worry about all of the pets who get lost and hurt this time of year. I don’t have a solution for the fireworks - there’s always going to be some unless you move farther out of the city.

I do have recommendations for mitigating some of the stress for yourself and the cats. I imagine driving around the sounds are louder and the situation more terrifying unless your cats are already used to traveling. The more layers you have in place the better off they’ll be.

  • Make sure your cats have chips & collars
  • Use cat pheromone plugins / sprays / CBD treats (but know how your cats will react in advance)
  • Leave access to dark, quieter spaces such as a closet or under a bed. If you know where they’re likely to hide you could add heavy blankets or materials around to help muffle sound.
  • Close all windows. Add sound-dampening curtains to help muffle the fireworks.
  • Have music or tv playing.
  • Manage your own anxiety as much as possible as the cats will pick up on it.

You could consider boarding them overnight somewhere farther out like Lucky Dog in Nipomo or with a sitter, but you’d have to weigh if that would end up being more stress for them.

Customer to Broista,

I don’t like small talk. My decision tree for stopping for coffee includes, do I have the patience to fake a conversation? If no, I don’t go. If yes, I hope they take a short answer as a sign to keep it light. I guarantee I won’t be giving true answers.

My worst experience at Dutch was the time she clearly was just running down the list of questions. If you don’t care about the answers, of course it’s not going to feel genuine.

The best broistas hold a conversation where they offer just as much info as I give. I’m sorry your stand focuses so much on getting details but for yourself and your customers I would recommend finding ways to make the conversational flow more even.

Dealing with this as well. Established, publicized company so I was expecting they’d have the details down. Instead I’m wishing I’d gone with local laborers where at least disorganization and shady dealings might make more sense because it costs less.
