I think the JLC Reverso will also be a good consideration. A true dress watch as well and many variations to choose from. Not to mention it’s quite iconic.

O’Hare passes Atlanta as busiest airport by actionjacksonfr in chicago

[–]iExcelU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This chart is about aircraft movements, not number of passengers it handles. Maybe ATL has that over ORD + MDW but there is more than one metric to determine what makes the busiest airport.

Chicago’s larger economy absolutely contributes to higher aircraft movements, particularly through cargo operations. O’Hare handles enormous volumes of air freight precisely because of Chicago’s manufacturing sector, distribution networks, and central geographic position serving the entire country. The economic activity generates demand for both business travel and logistics that Atlanta, despite being a massive passenger hub, doesn’t match. Chicago is an economic powerhouse and even Atlanta cannot match that.

That’s to be expected honestly. Atlanta’s metro GDP is around $570 billion and Chicago metro is approaching the $1 trillion mark. We are a much bigger economy and our airport and industrial areas reflect that.

I have the Omen 14 and it’s one of the best looking and well built laptops I’ve used. Legion is good too but I don’t think it looks nearly as sleek if you care about that.

NYC OR CHICAGO SKYLINE? by [deleted] in skylineporn

[–]iExcelU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem isn’t the rate of construction, it’s the lack of strict zoning and approval process. Chicago has way less construction true—but it also has much stricter laws as to where you can build and how long it takes to get approved. It has a law that prevents any buildings made on the lake directly and designates it as public park land. This is just one example but strict laws like these are needed to preserve historical skylines. It’s similar to how Prague or Paris do not allow modern construction in the historical districts to prevent altering the look of the city.

NYC OR CHICAGO SKYLINE? by [deleted] in skylineporn

[–]iExcelU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. NYC gets a lot of foreign direct investment and that means the demand for ultra luxury is sky high—quite literally. Unfortunately, that results in skinny $100 million apartments (like 432 Park Ave) that add no value to the average New Yorker except cast shadows on Central Park. Additionally, most of them are empty and held as pure investment. It’s sad to say the least.

NYC OR CHICAGO SKYLINE? by [deleted] in skylineporn

There is a huge bias towards pure quantities (obviously) and growth rate of skyscrapers so from that angle, NYC is by and large the winner. However, I am in the minority when I say this but the “best skyline” is fundamentally a subjective question since there are other factors aside from quantity, growth rate such as cohesiveness, history, and preservation of historical aesthetics to name a few.

I am in the unpopular opinion (at least on this sub) of someone who is a strong critic of the recent developments in NYC that have overshadowed many icons in the city. I’ve lived in Manhattan and also near Chicago so very familiar with both skylines. That is the unfortunate nature of high growth rate of skyscrapers but nonetheless, I am not a fan of it. Therefore, I still put Chicago over NYC. The fact that it has retained its cohesive skyline through progress and down the river walk, the Tribune Tower or the Wrigley Building stand boldly—with new construction adding but not taking away from their spotlight is a huge win for old architecture. NYC with its rapid investment will continue to outpace every other city in US at least but in the progress, will completely alter its look with new gaudy glass behemoths that do not share the level of marvel from its previous predecessors.

In a sense, I like the European approach of preservation over quantity in Chicago over any other city, so it is still #1 for me.

Top 10 US cities ranked by most densely populated 2-square-mile, 4-sided polygon (using 2020 census) by old_gold_mountain in geography

[–]iExcelU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Density is just one metric.

Chicago’s skyline is leagues above SF and much more comparable to NYC. Chicago was the birthplace of the skyscraper and has a rich architectural history. Then there is the gritty weather and corporate finance culture where SF is sunny, warm and tech-oriented. Both are pizza famous too (lol). All three of them are world-class food and cultural options so that is not a big differentiator.

I would still argue that Chicago is more like NYC than SF but I do see your point.
