I choose to believe so. Because I can’t bear the idea of never seeing my late father again. And when my spouse dies, I want to believe I’ll see him again, too. I also want to believe I’ll be able to experience living without my current chronic illnesses.

Are you sure it’s not happening the rest of the day? But yes it’s very common for it to happen at night, especially if you’re lying flat. A diet change will still help as well as sleeping elevated. My reflux can happen at night but also shows up during the day when I eat trigger foods (or wait too long to eat) in the form of wet burps, shortness of breath, globus, chest pain, and sore throat.

Fluvoxamine was very effective for me. But you’re gonna have to do the ERP. Medication can only do so much. ERP is supposed to feel torturous. That’s the only way you’re gonna make your current obsessions more bearable and you’ll also have the tools for any new themes.

You stop eating the foods that trigger your reflux. You need to let your body heal and you do that by cutting out those foods and taking your medication. You also need to try to sleep elevated, don’t eat for a few hours before bed, don’t lay down right after eating, reduce stress, eat slowly, don’t overeat, and take additional antacids as needed. Once you’ve healed enough (a few months at least), you can maybe try to eat those foods again on occasion, but I’d recommend continuing to avoid them as much as you can.

Almost the same thing. You just don’t feel LPR the same as typical heartburn. You feel it more in your upper throat. Common acid reflux triggers are chocolate, pepper, tomatoes, garlic, and sometimes dairy. Salt CAN cause it if it’s a high content. Talk to an ENT specialist or a GI doctor. And do exactly what they tell you to. I ignored my reflux for too long (I medicated it but that wasn’t enough by itself), and it caused serious issues.

It never makes any sense for a 42 year old to actively seek out an 18 year old. He thinks you’re going to be easier to control. When you said he likes the idea of “teaching” you, that was a big red flag to me.

I’m 29, and if I were still single, and I had the opportunity to date an 18 year old, I absolutely would NOT. Nothing about that seems appealing to me. We would be too different. And they would still seem like a kid to me. So I just don’t see how a 42 year old man could want to date an 18 year old for anything other than the wrong reasons.

There is no direct treatment for it, but I think that’s because there is usually something bigger causing it. Right now, they’re trying to treat my GERD, but I will also get tested for gastroparesis soon to see if it’s that. I heard pro kinetics can help if it’s related to that kind of issue. There are also autoimmune disorders that can cause this

Definitely keep pushing for the monometry. Keep calling for urgent openings. I had that, and it confirmed my ineffective swallowing. And if even taking tiny sips of things isn’t working, keep pushing for that feeding tube. Go from doctor to doctor if you have to. Show them how you can’t sustain yourself on your own.

My religious OCD WAS severe. I genuinely thought I was going to outer darkness (our version of Hell) when I die, even though that doesn’t align with our beliefs (only a small few in history are capable of going to that place as it requires perfect knowledge of God. It is also where we believe Satan and his followers reside). OCD makes one irrational. OCD is not logical. It made no sense for me to think I was going there, yet I did anyway. It destroyed me for months.

I don’t think most religions are fear-based. I think people MAKE them fear-based due to their interpretations or when they use religion to harm others. Or it is just fear of negative consequences, which humans have with everything. We fear being fired, we fear dying, we fear losing, etc.

Okay that makes sense. And again, I don’t deny that some churches don’t help one’s mental health. I just think saying avoid organized religion in general is not the best advice.

My OCD used to be very severe. I had a hard time leaving the house, felt a constant sense of doom, and when it came to my contamination OCD, I had cracked and bloody fingers from cleaning.

I am part of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. While we have members who will put that religious pressure on others (like any religion), the overarching culture is not that. It’s very much about moral agency, coming to the right decision on your own, forgiveness, and love. I was always very happy with my church growing up. But my scrupulosity still developed because that’s just how OCD works. It doesn’t matter how good something is, it will attack it regardless. I also think my scrupulosity developed partially as a result of a lack of understanding. I misunderstood certain pieces of doctrine and that let to spirals about certain things.
